By the way, did it. "Better than expected" was at 54 percent. All the favorable-to-bush numbers combined only added up to 40. There was another seven percent or so that still weren't sure.

What a way with words!

I read Ms. Johnston’s letter (Globe, July 19) with mouth agape; I could have caught an elephant, never mind flies. And then I couldn’t stop laughing. Where have you been living? This is America. I grew up when women were bra-burning and young men were dying in Vietnam to give all of us freedom to do what we want — to become what we want.


I just want to tell Robert E. Brown that he must have a bad case of amnesia. It was our President George W. Bush whose daughters were out boozing and raising hell. I don’t think anyone in their right mind thinks John Kerry believes in crime, drugs, child abuse or murder. He also looks to have a respectful family.


To the letter writer wanting to drop the Doonesbury cartoon: Has is come to that, even taking out cartoons we don’t agree with, like we try and do to the movies? I hope the public library isn’t next. If it disagrees with what we believe, it’s sort of like we don’t want to hear it, see it or listen to it!

It is on I-44 between Springfield, MO and Tulsa, OK. It stands at the confluence of three strong Puke areas: Oklahoma, Kansas and Southern Missouri. I would hardly think that this poll, un-DUed, would be a good litmus test of American reaction to Kerry, or to ANY democrat. Joplin is reactionary to the Nth degree.
