Al Gore LOST the election.
Looking at John Kerry last night and watching his campaign so far, I found myself comparing it to Gore 2000.

Remember Gore distancing and soul searching re Clinton? JFK sticks by his men, no shame in Carter or Big Dawg.

Remember changes in tone (voice and face) during the debates? JFK is consistant and comfortable in his own skin.

Al Gore lost Tennessee and Arkansas. JFK will win Massachusets and North Carolina.

My advice, stop whinning about 00. "the fix was in", "he cheated", "he bit my ear" yada yada.

The fight is now.

72. I don't know if you know
but calling someone a freeper is somewhat of a loaded word around here. It refers to someone from Free Republic who favors the most extreme of conservativism. It's not usually used to refer to someone you just happen to disagree with.

3. No whining . The election was STOLEN. Remember Florida?
Remember the Suprememe Court? Remember the disenfranchisement of the blacks in Florida? The votes for Pat Buchannan. Please don't tell us to get over it. We must move on, but knowing that they CAN CHEAT AND WILL TO WIN ANOTHER ELECTION.

Forget Florida, he lost his home state. He was weird, he did not instill confidence. Wallowing in that story does nothing to move JFK TODAY.

16. Not wallowing...

....we are not wallowing, we are learning from our mistakes. We should reflect back on historical events and learn from them. Yes the 2000 election/selection is over, HOWEVER we are still living with the effects.

I do believe that the general population would not roll over and play dead this time around; although many of us have been protesting all along.

Cheers,
Kim :toast:

17. "Forget Florida"???!!!
We should NEVER forget Florida!!!

Tennessee has nothing to do with it. People were denied their right to vote, and to have their votes counted. That is subversion of democracy and we should NEVER forget it. The will of the people did not prevail, and the election was stolen.

We are not letting this distract us from getting Kerry elected, as you imply -- on the contrary, it's part of what's fueling us. The fight goes on, they're trying to get the "fix in" again, and we cannot afford to "forget Florida."

11. Al Gore WON the election, dear
He won the popular vote and if the Florida vote had actually been recounted as per law, and not the SCOTUS, he probably would have won the electoral college.

As for your observations, I think Kerry is taking lessons from Gore's campaign strategies and is learning from mistakes made. There is no reason why Gore should not have won handily in 2000, and he did make mistakes. But HE DID NOT LOSE THAT ELECTION!!

It isn't about whether Al Gore won or lost Florida. That's water under the bridge and we can't change it. What we can change is THIS election and every election in the future. We can get over the wrongness of Florida, but we can never forget it. The fight to perfect this country isn't over, we've got alot of work to do and Florida taught us that. We've got a democracy, if we can keep it.

It was on this afternoon but it's already over. You can buy it from that site. Do it. You have a lot to learn.

No amount of ragging on people and ranting about Gore's faults will EVER change history.

The rogue justices on the SCOTUS STOLE the presidency from the people of this country. They took it as their right to decide for us, and no one, anywhere, will ever forget about it.

30. Gore didn't lose the election but he didn't take his populist stand until
far too late and did not effectively counter the accusations and propaganda against him.

He did NOT effectively address or debunk LOVE CANAL, the INTERNET or the like and he was SO consumed with BEING his own person that he never showed who that was...Kerry has thus far effectively countered nearly every accusation against him:

Kerry got rid of the FONDA rumor fast
The INTERN rumor
He counters the Waffle rumor by portraying Bush as stubborn and wrong
He PULLED the flag back

He EFFECTIVELY portrayed the TRUE meaning of Chirstianity last night.

Kerry has been much more effective in sustaining the body blows tossed at him than Gore was.

The election should have never been that close. Gore had the greatest economic expansion in American history under his belt, the millenium bomber was CAUGHT, the WTC bombers were caught and prosecuted, and the country was in GOOD shape....the concentration of wealth was already underway and he missed an opportunity to continue to take the country on a path to sanity. He was FAR too busy trying to DiSTANCE himself from Clinton for all the wrong reasons...

statement..it isn't factually correct..it's still a sore subject and SHOULD BE..elections should NEVER be stolen even by a single vote...and given the amount of diusruptors that visit DU..it places you on the immediate defensive as a result of sloppy languaging...Gore won by almost every count scenario...a detail the country never really got to let sink in as they were riveted by the destruction on their screens the morning the news broke..too busy viewing the carnage. Edited on Fri Jul-30-04 02:37 PM by Cat Atomic
The Republicans are trying to steal the election again with the same tactics, in case you hadn't noticed.

Jeb had to hand over his disenfranchisement list for pre-election review this time. The electronic voting fraud machines are becoming an issue.

These issues, and others, would not be addressed if we just acted like good little Republicans and ignored the 2000 election.

please stop putting all of Florida's counties in the same election basket. Here in Orange County we had a clean election. We use optiscan machines. Completely chadless.

58. It is not whining to tell the truth just like it is not paranoia if
someone really is out to get you. The 2000 election MAY not have been stolen between election day and December, 2000. But it WAS stolen before election day when tens of thousands of African Americans were illegally purged off the voting rolls. It MAY have been stolen again before the election when the butterfly ballot was approved by Katherine Harris in Palm Beach County, even though it was clear to anybody with an ounce of good sense that it was a confusing design, particularly when used with punch card voting machines that had alignment problems. It MAY have been stolen again the day after the election when the recount was stopped in a number of counties after it was apparent that Gore was picking up votes and closing the gap. The Republicans certainly tried to steal it by delaying recounts and running out the clock until the SCOTUS stepped in. Many Republicans use the "whiner" label to avoid addressing the serious issues raised in Florida in 2000. Don't give them comfort.

66. Official Mea Culpa
I agree with the DUers who flamed me about my use of "lost" and "forget Florida". My bad.

I hope this makes more sense. Al had everything going for him, it should have been a landslide. It should never have come down to a bad call by the referee at the buzzer.

The lesson learned should be to get ahead, stay ahead and win by so much that the refs do not matter.

70. True..but in a closely divided nation it is difficult
Kerry had the benefit of SEEING that division...SEEING the anger of progressives, SEEING the effect and weight of media assassination...there have been far more studies on the mix of representatives in the media (liberal vs conservative and Dem vs Repub) than there were at the time Gore ran..and the effect of the internet during 00 was wasted on Dems and siezed upon by Republicans....we strategized while they waged war on us...hindsight...20/20...you know ;)

If I'm not mistaken it usually gives you an hour. Your post isn't that long. Sometimes the board malfunctions and won't let you edit, so if that's the case, then it's just an unfortunate coincidence that you 'innocently' posted freeptard spew *and* got bit by a board glitch with your first thread.

but like I said... introducing yourself to the board by using freeptard reich-wing talking points casts you in a baaaaad light.

I suppose even the dumbest freeptard would be smart enough not to repeat them verbatim, so I'll just assume you have no clue as to how much the media lies for the reich-wing.

go here now, search, explore, learn

But my patience runs thin when people tell us to "Get Over It."

Especially in light of what has been done to our country and our world in the past 4 years.

It is true Gore made mistakes that perhaps help make the election closer than it should have been.

The fact is it does not matter.

Gore WON The Election.

They STOLE the Election. They should not have been allowed to get away with it, and look what they have done as a result.

THAT is the real Issue.

We should NEVER "Get Over It." We should NEVER Forget.

And we will NOT allow them to do it again. At least that is my Strongest Hope.

After all, Hope Is HERE.

And if it remains fair and honest, Bush is finished.

And if it doesn't.

We will NOT "Get Over It." Not this time.

This time this maniac and his Merry Murderers are coming face To Face with OUR Will. The Will Of The People.

Steal It Once, Shame....Shame On You.

They WON'T Steal It Again. :)

85. It's a matter of FACT: Gore WON the election
By any OBJECTIVE standard, Gore won the state of Florida and the election.

Anyone who believes otherwise is either lying, stupid, or ideologically brainwashed.

88. My adivce: You DON'T move on when your MOM gets RAPED!
You DON'T stop speaking up about it and trying to prosecute the criminals who did it!

Well, when the Busheviks pulled their Bloodless Coup of 2000, they raped and beat Lady Liberty, left her bloodied and bruised and in the street.

And I'll be GODDAMNED IF I FORGET IT!

Plus, to accept it and say nothing about it is to ENSURE it will happen again.

Screw that, pal.

Screw that.

...my one wish is that the perpetrators of that act, and all subsequent acts leading up to November, be tried for treason against the United States of America.

The fight has been ongoing for decades...you apparently have failed to take notice.
