Well, I think that Bush committed a big FAUX PAS: USED THE WIFE
as chum... THE FIRST STATEMENT IN HIS SPEECH THIS MORNING: The BEST reason to keep him in the White House was to keep Laura a the first lady.
Attacking the wife of the other candidate on his first line of his first speech?????
WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?????

2. They're in trouble!
Meek, mild-mannered (at least in public) Laura Bush and Lynn (undisclosed location)Cheney versus dynamic, spiritual Teresa Heinz Kerry and Elizabeth Edwards.

Not a contest, imo.

Of course, such men are already voting for Bush, so this is an exercise in futility.

3. With all due respect ...
It is quite a stretch to make the assertion that a desire to keep his wife in the White House is a bona fida attack on Mrs. Heinz-Kerry ...

Spend your energies wisely ...

They do not want that woman, Teresa Heinz Kerry in the White House... It was a not-so-subtle shot at Mrs Kerry, imo.

25. Chuckles ...
Boy: I'd hate to see what happens when they ACTUALLY attack Heinz-Kerry ....

Think about it: With SO much to do, and so little time, and SO much REAL negative material provided by the Bush WH over the years: do we really want to waste time charging every positive statement by Bush about Pickles is a de facto attack against Kerry's wife ? ...

Jousting with windmills ...

Pick your battles wisely ...

But I'm not picking battles or jousting with windmills, I am simply agreeing with LittleApple on his/her observation, which is right on and which I applaud for the awareness which I wish you could also comprehend.

27. You have a break ....
now: while your on break : THINK ...

I despise the GOP and Bush with all my being: but this is semi ridiculous .... DO you expect him to want his wife to leave the WH ? ... It is absurd, and clearly a fallacy, to assert that a positive comment about one's own family is automatically an attack on someone elses family ....

I swear: It's as if we dont have enough to bitch about with George: we have to conjure even MORE nasties in the dark ...

Keeping Laura as First Lady the BEST REASON to vote for Bush?! Because on all those frivolous issues like the economy and national security, voting for Bush would be a really, really bad idea.

Ladies and Gentleman, the election is over. We won.

12. Those kinds of remarks appeal to the NeoCon base....
...unfortunately for FratBoy, and fortunately for us, his actual rightwing base is only about 35% of the total population. The other people on whom they were counting to win the election are starting to have a lot of second thoughts, particularly after seeing Kerry last night.

You're onto something, LittleApple, and her absence speaks volumes.

Let's keep her as first lady. Home - sweeping the porch where she belongs. Home - with the twin who'd just had surgery, while he vacationed in FL.

Where was she today?

Edited on Fri Jul-30-04 10:55 AM by Bush_Eats_Beef
http://www.bartcop.com/pickles-killer.htm

When she was 17 years old, the future wife of Republican presidential candidate George W. Bush, then known as Laura Welch, made a mistake that killed her boyfriend.

On Nov. 5, 1963, at 8 p.m., Laura was driving east on Farm Road 868 in her hometown of Midland en route to a party. At a dangerous intersection, she allegedly failed to see Mike Douglas, also 17, heading south on State Road 369.

Laura, traveling with her best friend Judy Dykes and allegedly chatting about clothes, collided with Douglas' Jeep, which was doorless. He was thrown from the vehicle and broke his neck, dying instantly.

"She didn't see him, he didn't see her," says Dan Harris, who also was cruising Midland that night, with Laura's close friend Beverly Girdley. "It was a terrible accident."

32. AAR is playing the audio clip of this comment...
...and it's the tone, isn't it, more than how the words look on paper? His inflection does imply that he was taking a swipe at Teresa Heinz-Kerry. To be fair, I haven't seen the video, haven't seen his face when he said it... but you can hear the smirk in his voice, if you know what I mean.

35. Hiding behind the wife's skirts. Nice. Should be good fodder for snarky
commercials, bumperstickers, and possibly some campaign trail remarks by JK.

"This stuff just writes itself!"

"I couldn't make this up if I tried!"

Imagine the field day by the mighty Republican Wurlitzer if JK had made any remarks about Teresa being an asset as first lady being a reason to elect him.

41. Remember when Clinton
made the comment that voting for him meant getting Hillary in the bargain? Repukes hated that then. And now here comes chimpy stealing from the Clinton playbook, trying to tout Pickles as an asset. Only problem is, Bill and Hillary were smart, dynamic, and natural leaders. The chimp is a shit-for-brains good-for-nothing and Pickles is his enabler. The sooner those two are out of sight in Crawford, the better.
