I have just sat and watched the replay of our soon to be prez John Kerry. And I was moved. Beyond moved. And inspired. Beyond inspired. I am so ready to Vote I can barely see straight. I have never in my life been so excited about the prospect electing a president.
Now, so you know, I am an independent by proxy. I voted for Nader in the last election. Why? Well, I wasn't moved by Gore (and, as a musician, the PMRC thing still left a bad taste in my mouth) and I wanted to vote my conscience. But like many others, I really didn't think Shrub would get in. I mean, we had prosperity, we had a popular and randy president in Big Bill, and Shrub, well, Shrub was Shrub....and too damn brainless to be prez.
Well, I learned something in 2000. I learned that, yes, Virginia, there are some unbelievably fucked up people who will step all over our rights in pursuit of an agenda that looks likes, tastes like, and smells like something earth-shatteringly mind wobblingly NOT AMERICAN, all while wrapping itself in a coat of Flag/Bible/Swagger. Ugh. This is not right. And this will not stand.
I have never donated to a campaign before. I have done so twice this time (Once for Edwards, who caught my eye on TDS, and once again for Kerry a few days ago). My eyes have been opened and my ears are to the ground. And I'm ready....oooohhhhh, baby am I ready!
And I would like to thank DU for lighting a fire under me. I've been reading this board for quite sometime, and I've laughed out loud, cursed out loud, cried, and felt good about believing in the things I believe in. And I think that we truly can make a big difference. Howard Dean's crew taught us that. We move, and the world will move with us. Keep fighting. Keep believing what you believe. Keep railing against the fools who refuse to remove their blinders. Keep laughing long and hard at Faux News and their ilk while reputing every single falsehood long and loud, and above all, STAY TRUE TO THE COURSE!!!
And so, I leave you with this...something The Boss wrote that brings DU to mind:
Now I'm out here on this road Alone on this road tonight close my eyes and feel so many friends around me In the early evening light And the miles we have come And the battles won and lost Are just so many roads traveled So many rivers crossed And I ask God for the strength And faith in one another 'Cause it's a good night for a ride 'Cross this river to the other side My blood brothers
Now lets go kick some ass.... :D
