John Kerry, how fast can you give us UNIVERSAL health coverage?!
My friend is ill and having tests done. Her stupid only-covers-$1000-a-year-in-bills insurance won't even touch what she's going to rack up in cat scans. And her HMO-style doc isn't giving her the time of day to answer her questions. This girl is depressed and the doc is throwing words like "cancer" at her!

I am begging her to get her boss to cut her pay by $50/month so she can qualify for MaineCare. She's only over the line by a measly $50. :(

1. And my unemployed friend....
will have to pay $225 a month for a Blue Cross/Blue Shield policy that covers only catastrophic illnesses. At age 55, she will have to pay for meds and doctors' office visits out of her own pocket.

2. I pulled up his health plan from his website.
I'm not really happy about it because it still involves private insurance and HMO's I'm afraid we are going to have to go to the kitchen table on a grass roots level to get him to do a plan like Canada's which is what we need.

But this may be a first step. We can't really talk about meaningful healthcare reform until we get the for proft, traded on the stock exchange industries out of the equation.

5. Yep, we aren't going to get truly socialized medicine
until enough people can't get health coverage that they demand it....or else, so that legislators stop fearing something that has the word "socialized" in it.

I despise the fact that people freak out so much over a word. What the word stands for could be a very good thing for them, but they react from ignorant fear and don't really look at the issue.

8. but you serfs work so much harder when you are desperate and fearful
....when you serfs are fearful of dying because you cannot afford medical care, well, then you are much more willing to work for less, to work harder, and hustle. And all the rich people really like it that way.
