3. Wow. He wants to win this thing. He's not screwing around.
Very encouraging and will keep his base (I'm in it) energized and knowing he's in front of developments...not behind waiting to see how they play out.

16. That's EXACTLY what impressed people about Clinton's first campaign.
Remember when Carville was running things - and they just utterly POUNCED on things the instant they occurred. I distinctly remember stories and comments about how fast and effective they were - faxes humming all the time, spokespeople made available instantly to the media, staffers calling all the papers and talk shows to offer response/spin/Clinton's take on things/criticism of Bush I. People really sat up and took notice.

It appears Dean has taken a page from that, and run with it. Or rather - IS running with it.

Great stuff! It's made him the one to beat among his fellows. They're all waiting to see, and he jumps in. AND he jumps in with the goods, not just recklessly shooting his mouth off.

12. The July 10th entry
Nuclear weapons inspectors have asked the UK government to provide fresh evidence that Iraq tried to buy uranium from an African country, officials close to the inspectors said on Wednesday.

The request by the International Atomic Energy Agency follows claims by the UK government, repeated on Wednesday, that its information on the purchase of uranium was supported by documents different to those that were later exposed as forgeries.

"The evidence that we had that the Iraqi government had gone back to try to purchase further amounts of uranium from Niger did not come from so-called 'forged' documents. They came from separate intelligence."

The IAEA request for more information from the UK is not expected to be met quickly, because of the complex process of information sharing.

UK officials say that the two countries that are the source of the claim that Iraq sought to buy uranium do not want to be identified. Rules governing intelligence sharing stipulate that only the country that is the original source of the information can pass it on.(Huband, Mark and Peter Spiegel, Financial Times, 7/10/2003)

While I admittedly know nothing of information sharing procedures, the last two paragraphs smack of total CYA nonsense to me. Just as it is apparent that bushco knows there are no WMD because the troops now in Iraq are not being ordered to take any special precautions, it is apparent that Blair knows there are no other African countries that might have sold uranium to Iraq. If Blair really believed it, it would be front page news as to which African countries were involved, there would be talk of sanctions, talk of designating them as offering aid to terrorists, etc. Pathetic.

I think this timeline is a very good idea, & I'm glad to see it on Dean's site.

13. I like Dean More and More
I like the fact that finally one of our Dems has the guts to speak out against the way the current administration is cramming what THEY want down our collective craw and daring us to choke and vomit.

Note to all the "pussy" Democratic candidates who supported this war and have kept silent about what I consider the criminal actions of this administration: "Fuh-ged-a-bout-it!" I wouldn't vote for you guys to be dog-catchers. Lieberman, Gephardt - NEVER! Gephardt is finally trying to show a little back-bone, but sorry...too little, to late!

Graham, Dean, Kucinich and Sharpton seem to be the only candidates who are unafraid to speak out. The rest seemed to be afraid that they would truly be labeled "unpatriotic" and hung if they had questioned anything. So much for personal bravery. More and more, Dean seems the most realistic choice but I am still paying attention to the other three.

Remember, years ago Reagan said the "Silent Majority" would put him into office? Well, now I think the "Silent Majority" will vote for a Democrat who is unafraid of the guys now in office. Our only problem is will they cause another WTC to stay in office on an emergency basis? I put absolutely NOTHING past Rumsfeld, Cheney, Ashcroft, Wolfowitz and Perle. Rice and Powell will continue to play the roles of Tom and Beulah, the good old house servants who willingly do as they are told.

If Dean continues to show the kind of personal strength he is displaying now, I will do all the fund-raising that I can for him.

14. Love these comments on the Dean blog
"Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld's statement yesterday -- that he only found out that the Niger documents were forgeries -- “within recent days” was stunning.

"What is now clear is that there are those in this administration that misled the President, misled the nation, and misled the world in making the case for the war in Iraq.

"They know who they are. And they should resign today.

"There will be investigations, and the truth will come out - the American people must know the truth - and those in this administration must be held accountable for their failure to give us the truth before we went to war.

"But we do not need to wait for the investigations to rid these people from our government - they can resign on their own today.

"I am now convinced more than ever that it was a mistake to have given this administration a blank check to engage in this war - as too many in Congress did when they supported the Iraqi war resolution."

19. And I just got this email - Dean and his staff don't need socks
in their flight suits - they already have a pair.

Here's the email going out:

Dear xxxx,

In light of late-breaking events, I thought it was important that I write to you today.

It is now clear that there are those in this administration who misled the nation and misled the world in making the case for pre-emptive war.

They know who they are. And they should resign today.

Please join me in demanding that those responsible for misleading the American people resign by clicking on the link below:

http://www.deanforamerica.com/truth

In his State of the Union address, President Bush claimed that Iraq had attempted to purchase uranium in Africa for the production of nuclear weapons. We know now that the documents he relied upon to make that claim were forged.

Yesterday, in testimony before the Senate, Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld made the stunning announcement that it was only "within recent days" (since the press had begun reporting it) that he learned about the forgery. Yet Secretary of State Colin Powell, in February, had enough reservations about the validity of the documents that he did not cite them in his presentation to the UN.

The American people must know the truth.

There will be investigations, and the truth will come out, and those in this administration must be held accountable for their failure to give us the truth before we went to war.

But we do not need to wait for the investigations to rid these people from our government -- they can resign on their own today. Call on those who misled the American people to resign today by clicking on the link below:

http://www.deanforamerica.com/truth

I am now convinced more than ever that it was a mistake to have given this administration a blank check to engage in this war -- as too many in Congress did when they supported the Iraqi war resolution.

Please forward this message on to everyone in your email list. Ask them to join us. We all must stand up and demand the facts from our government in Washington.

Howard Dean
