Has CNN been listening to us? They sound different today.
I get to work from home today and I've been watching CNN since 8:00am (PST).

Miles O'Brien is pressing the Bush operative to defend Bush's reasons for going to war when evidence shows no Saddam/Al Qeada link.

Both anchors speaking positively about Kerry while showing shots of him on the boat with his vet buddies.

I don't think I've heard any Dem bashing at all this morning.

And best of all, my all-time favorite editorial cartoonist, Mike Luckovich making snarky comments about Bush and showing his cartoons on-air.

Uh oh, Judy Woodruff is on now, I might have to take back my positive comments.

Edited on Wed Jul-28-04 03:50 PM by NightOwwl
However, I did just call CNN to report her comment, "The country doesn't want to believe John Kerry and what he thinks" when she was talking to McGovern.

I'm keeping a list with time, anchor, comment and any other applicable information for my hourly calls to CNN.

37. Great idea, and GREAT WORK!
Not only are you calling them (and calling them ON this), but you're documenting the examples so you can cite them to support your argument. EVIDENCE. EXCELLENT!

Could you share some of your notes? It would help others here if they care to mobilize as you did, but haven't had time to watch carefully. This is MOST helpful!

If we don't STAY ON THESE PEOPLE, they'll think everything is JUST FINE AS IS.

They'll think they're doing their jobs properly.

They'll think, somehow, that they're being fair and balanced.

They'll think we don't care.

AND IF THEY THINK WE DON'T CARE, THEY WON'T, EITHER!!!

20. Proud liberal.
Here's a link where you can look at a couple of weeks worth of his political cartoons. Two of my favorites are 'Ralph Nader' and 'I Approve.' He's not vicious, but he gets his point across. FYI, his home paper is the Atlanta-Journal Constitution:

http://www.ajc.com/opinion/content/opinion/luckovich/2004/072504.html

Back when CNN had balls he used to be on Talk Back Live all the time. In a couple of minutes he could sketch out incredible scathing cartoons, always anti-GOP.

9. No Change Here...
Earlier there was Myles Mindbender joking around with Neil Boorish, and they had Mike Lukovich as the "lone liberal". I didn't know Lukavich was anything more than a cartoonist who took shots at both sides. Where was Mike Malloy, who usually faces off against Boortz? It was pathetic. Attacks on Kerry's looks and cheap Clinton/Teresa jokes.

The overnight ratings show CNN killing Faux. No surprise since Faux is the fox in this henhouse and its coverage outright sucks...(however I did love when someone shoved a sign in front of Carl Cameron's face saying "Fox Lies"). The surprise for CNN is the strong numbers for MSGOP...whose been far more aggressive at this event than I can ever remember. Tweety's little booth in the Boston Market is drawing as much interest as CNN's treehouse on the convention floor.

The other day I was reading an interesting report...sorry in print and not linkable online...that says there's a noticeable shift going on in market testing on interest in politics, news and talk radio among 18-34 year olds. This is starting to ring bells at advertising agencies who are looking at these numbers to see which network is getting those younger viewers...viewers who these reports are showing to be predominately Anti-Bush and "leaning Kerry".

Let's see how CNNservative covers the Repugnican Whorefest before we make judgements. Let's see if their coverage is the same as this convention and who their commentators are. Let's also see how much coverage Faux gives. If they carry any of the speeches outside of the 10-11pm primetime slot (something they haven't at the DNC) there's a textbook case of media bias no one can refute.

11. I have emailed, faxed and
even (type)written letters.

My fax program sends 1 every 60 minutes. To Faux, CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, NBC.
I simply edit the message. When I don't have a clear issue, I use a boilerplate: "Please I implore you to just keep it equal, no partisanship = a stonger America" or "How come I haven't heard about Bush's lack of national guard duty?" etc. etc. Any other suggestions?

My email does the same, from hotmail, yahoo and googlemail. I try and differ the message. I've also added congress and House emails, as well as every email I glean from DU. 157 email addresses so far.

It's automatic. Does it even while I sleep.

Imagine if 25 of us did the same thing. Every hour.

Keep the faith people, and keep up the good work!

wrote it.

It's a combination macro/keystroke reader. That I run through task scheduler every hour. Actually pops open IE - goes to hotmail, yahoo, googlemail - 'types' in messages, loads address book group, hits send. Takes a while.

It's annoying so I have it running on a PC in one of our storage/test rooms. No monitor, keyboard or mouse. Even if I were to leave, it would probably still run for a few months to a year. It's behind some boxes, with it's own UPS.

We should create a DU download page for software that we can use.

This sounds BEYOND WONDERFUL!! THIS IS GREAT!!!!

kkkarl rove has a blast fax? SO SHOULD WE!

This is JUST SUPERB! Hammer them. POUND them. NAG them til they nearly go blind. HOUND THEM til they cry for Milk Bones.

Sheesh, I called the comment line three times on Monday and thought I was hot stuff. YOU RULE.

Other suggestions:

--What happened to the Valerie Plame scandal?

--Why did you make such a big deal out of Sandy Berger when the White House has outed an undercover CIA operative, and still hasn't provided any answers?

--Why did Candy Crowley use so many REPUBLICAN-MANUFACTURED talking points in her profile of John Kerry? How much longer will you let her shill for the GOP? Has she NEVER heard of objective reporting?

--Why does Judy Woodruff hate John Kerry? She has YET to give him a fair shake.

--Why does Wolf Blitzer hate John Kerry? He has yet to give Kerry a fair shake.

--(The above could also apply to Paula "Monica" Zahn, but I'm not sure how much convention coverage she's provided. I've only watched bits of CNN and haven't seen her - such a refreshing change! She sickens me.)

--What is happening with Abu Ghraib?

--What's happening with the Abu Ghraib scandal - Seymour Hersh says he's seen more pictures and that they're horrible.

--Why haven't we gotten to the bottom of the Abu Ghraib situation? Seymour Hersh says he's seen photos of children being tortured there!

--WHY is Robert Novak still on the air? Isn't he the one who outed Valerie Plame, and isn't that a CRIME? Why are you keeping him on your payroll?

--Do we HAVE to hear Republican talking points during a DEMOCRATIC convention? You issue Republican talking points around the clock. Can't you at least back off of them THIS WEEK?

--Are you going to offer the Democrats as much response time during the GOP convention as you've freely given to Republicans this week?

--I'm SICK of hearing from the GOP! Give us a break! THIS is the DEMOCRATS' WEEK!

--PLEASE stop jamming GOP talking points down our throats! At least for this week! Give it a REST! Give OUR guys and gals a chance, for a change!

--WHY don't you truthfully label Bill Schneider as being from the American Enterprise Institute? That's a right-wing think tank. How can he possibly not be biased? And why do you hide his affiliation? Why can't you hire a pollster from a LIBERAL think tank?

--WHERE, and WHY does Judy Woodruff get off telling George McGovern "The country doesn't want to believe John Kerry and what he thinks." Does she even realize that there are MORE people like ME out here - who believe John Kerry and know Bush is a liar.

--WHOSE side is Judy Woodruff on, anyway? Her bias is EXTRAORDINARY! Isn't she supposed to be impartial? Isn't CNN supposed to be impartial?

--Why did you report only half the story about the photos of John Kerry in that funny suit? WHY did you cover only the GOP's side? WHY did you end the story without including the Democrats' response - and the funny-looking George Bush photos THEY provided?

--WHY are you taking the GOP talking points as gospel? Why aren't you giving the Democrats a fair shake? Will you be making use of Democratic Party talking points during the upcoming GOP convention?

--WHY did Frank Buckley spend so much of his report about John Kerry talking about Bush's poll numbers - that are SUPPOSEDLY better? Can't he just report on John Kerry?

--Frank Buckley wasted time in his John Kerry piece today by adding several references to the few poll numbers that are favorable to George Bush. Why? To be "fair and balanced?" Then why not even it up when you report on Bush? And when you report on the 9/11 Commission, for example, WHY DO YOU NEVER POINT OUT that the White House fought, tooth and nail, against the very existence of such a commission, to begin with? And that's not all they fought against. Yet you make no mention of it. How come?

--Why do your reporters and anchors put pro-Bush comments into your coverage of Democrats?

--Why does Judy Woodruff favor the Republicans and their talking points all the time? Why can't she be more even-handed? She's certainly been around long enough to know better.

--WHY should we be interested in ANYTHING Bill Bennett has to say? Why do you have him on, criticizing Teresa Heinz Kerry on a character issue? How can he criticize ANYBODY on a character issue?

--Whose brilliant idea was it to hire Jack Cafferty?

--If you continue to have Jack Cafferty's right-wing slant on, regularly, when will you be adding a left-wing commentator for the same amount of airtime also? WHY DO YOU KEEP IT SO SLANTED TOWARD THE RIGHT?

--When you bash Democrats, do you realize you are also bashing ME? I am a Democrat, and I believe in John Kerry. And I've been a longtime viewer. Do you NOT want me as a viewer anymore?

--The Fox network's numbers are DOWN this week. Do you still want to be more like them?

27. I hope so, the bush bias on CNN has been striking.
The talking heads have been pissing me off. Having wolf, kelly wallace, victoria clarke, aaron brown, bob dole, and tucker carlson in a representative position of authority OVER the convention is an insult.

Concerning Jimmy Carters speech wolf said "jimmy makes a better ex-president than he ever could as president"

Excuse me wolf, but nobody has tuned in to hear your dumb ass comments. Besides, your man bush would have to study hard for three years to be a better doorknob than he has been for the past four. He may well be at the peak of his stupidity. Besides wolf, Mr Carter was crippled by a slanderous republican attack. In fact, Reagan and Bush (then citizens campaigning for president) conspired against the President of the United States with an enemy (Iran) who had seized 449 American hostages. Reagen and Bush promised them sophisticated weapons in exchange for holding them for over a year until the election was over. Lets discuss THAT point on CNN wolfie.

I keep telling myself that perhaps the DNC has a good plan where these nutbags will be softened, if not won over, but i am skeptical and resent their spin on anything.

I was listening to radio coverage last night (piped in variety) and all I could hear was deafening cheers in the background with republican dipshits talking endlessly as if THEY were the convention and THEIR message was the important one.

I am shocked at how biased CNN really is. I never would have believed it until their anchors got exposed against a democratic backdrop.

Posted this earlier in its own thread but it seems to fit in here as a replay (with typos/misspellings corrected, of course.)

Goodbye, CNN......

There was a time when you reported the news according to basic journalistic principles....."Just the facts, ma'am. Just the facts."

Now, however, your newscasters intentionally shade and shape their semantics towards a right-wing bias that smacks of organized Conservative propaganda. Blitzer, Woodruff and Crowley are the most blatant, egregious and obnoxious examples of this practice.

That you allow the White House to influence your reporting (ala the Letterman fiasco) is simply unprofessional, unamerican and unacceptable.

My days of enduring skewed and distorted news are over! I can no longer - in good conscience - support you as a viewer and am changing the channel to the news agencies that still maintain honesty, integrity and non-bias in their reporting.

Goodbye, CNN. Goodbye!
