6 months for papal (email) death threat

A judge has jailed a 23-year-old Bosnian man for six months for sending an e-mail threatening to kill Pope John Paul II during his visit to Croatia.

A court in Sarajevo sentenced Almir Abdulah on Wednesday after finding him guilty of sending the e-mail from an internet cafe in the central Bosnian town of Zenica, 40km northwest of Sarajevo.

The e-mail, directed to the organisers of the pope's visit to neighboring Croatia, said the pontiff would be killed during the visit "in the name of Allah".

He signed the e-mail "the Islamic Front of el-Mujahadeen".
