Is David Brooks the most corrupt man in America?

Usually you can count on these "vested" jouranlists to say the predictable things in the predictable ways. But what one has to admire and fear about David Brooks is that he will say the predictable things in unpredictable, often clever, ways. And in fact he can be so clever that one gets the feeling he can't really believe what he is saying. Like his criticism of Mrs. Heinz/Kerry last night which boiled down to saying, "I really liked her strength and independence, but she should have been more fawning to her husband."
Anyway, what bothers me most about David Brooks is that he projects himself as the almost naive Mr. Smith went to journalism school kind of idealist whereas he's really a Machivellian manipulator. He's a guy who learned long ago there is more money to be made praising the King than criticising the powers to be, and has hence dedicated his considerable talents to deflecting the truth away from his sponsors rather than enlightening the public.
And, as I said before I think this is a very conscious decision on his part. He's too smart to be so stupid.

2. Babbling Brooks almost creamed his pants last night over

Obama's speech. Whether it was because he was shocked that a black man could be that articulate, or because he was genuinely impressed, I don't know. Either way, he was smart enought to "read" Jim Lehrer's reaction and go with the flow. Conclusion? Brooks is just another whore (no offense to sex workers) who will blow with whatever winds carry the cash.

At least Maureen Dowd is fun... and she has an innate talent and occassion flashes of brilliance.

titled "Kerry the designated driver for the whacked out Dems". And his other columns lately tried to paint the convention and Kerry as tedious.

This guy is obvious, the exact opposite of Machiavellian.
