3. Husband and daughter both went to school at A&M. It is very
conservative. I'll probably be clobbered for this but I think it's true that a shirt worded the other way round would have been a call for disciplinary action. Aside from that I appreciate what the shirt is trying to convey about the right wing.

16. I am not sure...
I am not sure that the reversed wording would be reason for disciplinary action. I have worked with GIES and the Women's Center at A&M for four years, and the animosity toward all things related to homosexuality and gender studies is incredible. I encourage my students to participate in any and all activities sponsored by either office, generally with good results, but really disasterous results at times. How did your husband and daughter fare in that environment?

36. My husband was there when they first were allowing women so it was
a very different place.(By the way he is deceased now.) When we went to our daughter's graduation every repuke in the western hemisphere was there, including the then pres. He and all of us were pretty disgusted that the event was so political. He also felt disgraced when that library went in. My daughter was a history major and a women studies minor and was and is a very strong feminist so wasn't really scathed by anything. There is a scholarship in his memory in his department of study. We really debated putting it there because of the bushes takeover but it was his alma mater so that is where it is.

37. No way. There is much more diversity and acceptance. It is a major state
school and could not even begin to get away with the stuff those other schools do.

and a "Give peace a chance" t-shirt gets you arrested?

that gays rejoice every time a repuke dies. Did I get it wrong?

9. What crap is this...
...whiney bitches. For how long have we had to deal with unveiled hatred, and then thinly veiled institutionalized hatred, from wingnuts? Those bow-tie wearing Bushbots should just suck it up and STFU. Difference is when GOPers do crap like this, it's usually with clear intimindation and threat of violence. I doubt any of them were afraid that the shirt wearer was going to leap over the counter and make a gay angel of them...

13. Hmmm...
not sure who your anger is directed at, but Republicans are allowed to be correct once and awhile. The shirt is tacky and wrong. And last time I check, two wrongs don't make a right. If it was the other way around, you can bet there would be a huge stink created -- but, because it bashes Republicans, the shirt is okay?

And two wrongs can't ever make a right. You cannot ever justify hate speech no matter which side it comes from. Let's keep our perspective here.

11. Well I agree with them on this one.
Sorry, but to imply that it's a great thing a Republican dies is hideous. I don't agree with Republicans, but that's just horrible.

Having said that, I'd like to point out (as another poster did) that people lately can't wear a shirt that says, "Give Peace a Chance" without being hassled. Why don't they mention that?

17. Any gay kid that can survive life at Texas A&M can wear whatever
the hell shirt they want to, as far as I'm concerned.

Don't recall where I read this, but a couple of years ago some organization polled A&M as the most homophobic college campus in the U.S. Having lived in Texas for a few years, and knowing a few Aggie Alums, I believe it.

The place had the feel of what it must have been like to go to college anywhere else in the 50s...

That said, I do see an arguable difference here, in that sexual orientation is predetermined like skin color or ethnic heritage; whereas Republicanism is a CHOICE, from which one can recover with the right treatment.

21. Amen and you should see
what they wear on my campus----
shirts advocating death for Jesse jackson is one I've seen alot
new "love it or leave it" models for the latest war
"kill liberals" was memorable.

I'm in the same state and I KNOW my U is not quite as wacky as A&M politically (almost...) and you should see what I am treated to daily.

Is the shirt tacky or tasteless? You bet. Would I wear it? Nope but I understand why this kid did---and I guarantee that she's seen more of the above on her campus than I do on mine

19. This is a joke...
albeit in questionable taste. It is a takeoff on the famous Jimmy Stewart Christmas movie, "It's a Wonderful Life".

The line in the movie is "Every time a (Christmas) bell rings, an angel gets its wings".(I think, please correct me if I'm wrong)

It isn't a threat - it's a JOKE. No one should take it seriously - IT IS A JOKE (maybe a bad one) but a joke.

23. But the repubs do have a point here
If one of them had worn a shirt stating, "Every time a homosexual dies, a republican angel gets his wings", there would have been an uproar.

It may be a joke, but its in extremely poor taste.

22. The shirt is inappropriate
Having once been a president of my schools LGB group, I know that you have to be careful about how the group is received on campus. We would have considered this shirt inappropriate. SMSU was no Texas A & M, but it was a hostile campus. We were always very careful with how we interacted with other groups on campus. For instance, one fall a Christian student group came along and deliberately stapled their own posters over ours all over campus. Leaders talked the issue out, and by November the two groups were co-sponsoring a toy drive to benefit our area's needy children! Its better to leave lines of communication open than to close them off with hateful statements.

26. Woah!
Ah, my alma mater! I will always remember the University President saying "there are no homosexual students at Texas A&M."

This was in the late 90's. As in nineteen-90's, not 1890's.

Yep, 50,000 students, all straight.

Yeah, yeah, yeah...whatever.

Sure, it's a slap across the face....but it's unclear as to what they took offense to exactly...republicans dying or the thought of queer angels.

I'd celebrate the death of those who would oppress me...I see no reason not to celebrate it.
