Am I the only one who hits the mute or turns it down when * is on?
Edited on Wed Aug-20-03 06:20 PM by Woodstock
I do this religiously. Listening to NPR, I have to do it hourly when they do the news updates. On the NPR talk shows, they play clips of him all the time. Sometimes I'll be driving along in silence for a while because I forgot to turn it back up. TV, if the news is on, it's instant mute button. When there was that community service commercial where he said something about helping neighbors at the end (as if he gave a good damn about anyone but himself), that was REALLY tough, because I never knew when it was coming, and they ran it all the time. The only time I can bear to hear his voice is when The Daily Show is spoofing him (and even then, it's not easy.) Am I alone?

7. You are not alone
I simply cannot BEAR the sound of that smirking, annoying voice or the sight of his simian face. I either mute the TV and look away or change the channel. The only time I force myself to listen is during the SOTU address so I can yell at and mock him or when he's doing one of his oh-so-rare press conferences so I can see him squirm (of course, he gets such softball, cotton candy questions, but he STILL can't handle them!)

24. My responses change...
from day to day. Mostly I change the channel, but if
I feel the need to hear what he is saying I brace
myself like someone who has to swallow caster oil.
Then I stand it for as long as I can which is rarely
longer than 2 or 3 minutes, by then I am either
cursing him through the screen, turning on the mute,
or changing channels.

His presense in my life is unbearable.
His presense in the WH is a national embarrasment.

31. I avoid him, except on Malloy's show...
when he plays sound bites of the Chimp and then lays on a huge dose of well-deserved ridicule. Malloy and Kathy manage to make him appear ridiculous with little effort. It's not terribly difficult, is it? Then, why can't the fucking media do it? When ChimpCo. goes on trial for war crimes, the whole media whore lot should be there as well.

35. NOOOOOO! I'm with you!

I can't watch/listen to him at all. I'll admit that I did during the recent blackout (as I was sitting in the dark here in Detroit) because some of the neighbors wanted to hear what he had to say (for the record, they laughed at his ridiculously inept statement).

After it was all over, I wanted to take a shower but the city told us not to because the wastewater pumps weren't working. Now THAT sucked.

38. This is a very widespread phenomenon
I had never mentioned it to my mother, age 81, until she volunteered that neither she nor he best friend Kathleen could stand the sight or sound of him. I avoided TV for 6 months after the selection for the same reason, and still feel the same horrified incredulity every time I hear or see him. (Which is NOT the hate the wingers felt for Clinton; I wish no harm on Dubya, just cannot bear the thought of him being president.) Dozens of DUers chimed in that they felt the same when I posted this months ago.

YOU ARE NOT ALONE. There is some unbearable emptiness in his face, his voice, that rings alarm bells in anyone whose conscience has not been deadened by 24/7 propaganda.

44. on a related matter, how about those extreme close-ups in the paper?
Edited on Thu Aug-21-03 08:16 PM by Lisa
The Globe and Mail (a Canadian paper, at that) has the weird habit of unexpectedly printing a larger-than-life close-up of the Shrub's face (or a portion of it).

I mean, one minute I'm eating breakfast and reading about the latest Royal Commission, and then I turn the page and am looking at George W.'s nose hairs and skin pores.

Waste of a perfectly good breakfast, as I rush for the bathroom.

It ain't a pretty sight -- the man doesn't photograph well at the best of times, and when he's enlarged by a factor of 2 or 3 .... you can see every blemish, even the supposedly-healed pretzel bruise.
