and had a ball. I did volunteer work early in the a.m. of each convention day, delivering the daily delegate passes, being driven all about by SF's finest, heading to all the nice hotels with pastries and coffee laid about.
Make some phone calls to the DNC before you go and ask about volunteering. If it doesn't pan out, head to the headquarters when you arrive and avail yourself. If you can get a pass for only a day, it's well worth it.
Willie Brown hosted a party on one of the wharfs that I was able to get into because of my job connection. I had a great time!! All the delegates were there, and I danced with most of the US in one evening. I heard Grace Slick sing "White Rabbit" from 3 feet away.
Once inside, it's fun to look for the well-knowns. I remember seeing Dan Rather, Bill Bradley, and several others on the floor, interviewing people. Also movie stars hanging about. But the most fun was heading to the MS delegate section. They were all wearing those Mark Twain panama hats and were really nice about letting me cheer with them even though I didn't have a pass that allowed me on the floor.
GO!
