Clinton's Book Sells Out First Printing (1.5 MILLION copies!!)
Clinton's Book Sells Out First Printing

Fri Jul 23, 8:36 PM ET

NEW YORK - Bill Clinton (news - web sites)'s "My Life" needed just one month to sell out its initial printing of 1.5 million, publisher Alfred A. Knopf announced Friday. The audio version has already sold 150,000 copies, far more than most books in that format.

The former president received a reported $10 million for "My Life," which Knopf published June 22 with a suggested price of $35. The book sold 400,000 copies on the first day alone, believed to be a record for nonfiction, and more than 2.5 million copies are now in print.

1. At 1.5 Mil copies this one isn't destined to become collectable

read it once and then use it as a door stop. Considering that a bookstore usually sells 10-20 copies of a popular title, this is quite amazing.

4. Was in a bookstore today...

Had my daughter with me. We'd just walked in and were standing near the front display, where I picked up Clinton's book and browsed it. Don't know why since I've already read it ... just a habit I guess.

Anyway, while I was doing this, some guy walked in behind me. I could feel him hovering behind me, sort of like he was reading over my shoulder, so I turned around to see what was up.

Out of his mouth, in the presence of my 14 year old daughter, came these words: "What the fuck are you doing with that pile of shit. Only thing that's good for is target practice!"

He walked way. My daughter asked, "Who was that guy?"

"That, my dear, was a Bush supporter."

"Oh, okay." She smiled and walked away, with a copy of the book in her hand. I had no idea why. She has no intention of actually reading it.

In the meantime, I complained about the guy to the store management. They said they'd take care of it, which they didn't.

Soon after, I saw my daughter, sitting in one of the reading chairs, holding Clinton's book open in front of her face. Directly across from her was "The Bush Supporter." He looked extremely irritated.

I just walked over and whispered in her ear, "Good one. Be careful." She grinned. I wandered over to the history books where I could keep an eye on the situtation. The man soon got up and left the store.

I knew my daughter had an attitude. I had no idea how subtle she could be expressing it.
