What if Gore had picked Kerry instead of Leiberman?
Would we have Gore as President now or would they still have stolen the election? I think Leiberman was a major mistake but am uncertain Kerry would have helped much at the time. Now after 9-11 with Kerry's strong military record in hindsight it would have been a team we could really have been proud of.

2. Bush was going to steal the election no matter what.
I don't think having Kerry as Veep would have mattered.

16. Nope. Bush only had one brother who was a govenor of a large
state. So, how was he going to steal any other states?

Well, leave aisde for the moment the idea that the Busheviks were
going to steal it no matter what...YES.

Gore/Kerry MIGHT have been able to deliver an un-stealable margin of victory.

Though, knowing what I know now about the Busheviks, that is FAR from certain.

4. I don't think Holy Joe was that much of a factor in the votes
Maybe the question would be whether Kerry would have resisted the Coup, because Joementum sure as Hell didn't do it.

5. I think Gore would have easily won with Kerry
I thought that Lieberman as the VP choice would hinder and not help. Not because of his politics (he seemed at the time to be a stand-up guy), but because there are many fence-straddling voters out there with a bias against Jews and they don't want one anywhere near the WH.

8. Those types of fence-straddlers tend not to be on the Democratic side,
IMO.

6. Lieberman turns me off
Gore won. So Lieberman wasn't a factor in any "defeat." But I can't get passed Lieberman voting for impeachment (%$#@!)

7. The word was that Al The Bluenose didn't pick Kerry because of...
his playboy days in between his marriages. IN BETWEEN HIS MARRIAGES! There are many things that I like about Gore, but his puritanical streak is not one of them. Of course, Al chose a bigger prig than himself for his running mate (although Joe does have the better sense of humor)

9. The repukes would've stolen it no matter what
Edited on Fri Jul-23-04 04:39 PM by bigwillq
I think 2000 was going to be a tight race no matter who Gore chose.

I think it would've still come down to Florida and the Repukes still would've cheated. Just my opinion.

11. At the time I had no strong opinion of Lieberman, except...
That every time he opened his mouth to speak his voice came out sounding like a perpetual belch. The man has the ugliest voice I've ever heard. Absolutely no charisma. What a useless pick. I voted for the ticket, but I wasn't particularly thrilled to.

14. Exactly. Gore lost my husband's vote because of Lieberman.
I disliked him, but did what I needed to do. I am sure a lot of fence sitters like him voted for Bush because of Lieberman. He was totally the wrong choice for such a close race. He said he couldn't stand to listen to Lieberman for 4 years. I told him Bush was a moron. He said he would pick knowledeable people to help him. I told him what I thought of that. He has reformed and will be voting the correct way this time

12. We would have won NH which would have been all that was needed.
Also, Kerry's green record was so strong that many environmentalist issue Greens would likely have voted Dem.

17. The Dem Party in Colorado is trying to force us to
vote for a Dem Senator who was a Lieberman supporter.

Then they wonder why they aren't seeing enthusiasm.

19. You do realize Lieberman is speaking at the convention next week...
on the same night as John Kerry. I guess we had to invite him; all the primary candidates are speaking.

Only goes to prove that our party surely has a big tent!
