With God as PNAC/neo-conservative cabal/insert culprit here.
MIHOPers: "God MIHOPed life on earth in seven days and all this crap about evolution is just a front. That's what I BELIEVE, and nothing you say can convince me otherwise."
LIHOPers: "The Bible may not be literal, but God certainly played a direct role in LIHOPing existence as we know it. I don't trust science, and there's GOT to be something more to it than just a bunch of chemical reactions."
Rationalists: "God may or may not exist, but all the evidence that human beings have come up with so far indicates that life comes into being without divine intervention. God may have played a part in the creation of the universe, but in a more meta sense. He simply created the conditions necessary for life to emerge, and what we have today is simply the inevitable result of matter interacting according to the laws of physics. It is difficult to imagine a physical, omnipotent being somehow creating Eve out of one of Adam's ribs."
The analogy has holes, but that's what I think of when I read these threads.
