Peter Bergen-Yesterday's Baghdad boming harbinger of things to come
I posted his reply to an e-mail yesterday saying he believed that Al Qaeda was behind the bombing(exclusively seen first on DU).
Also, he stated that the August 7 bombing of the Jordanian embassy was the work of Al Qaeda. The date is an important one on the Al Qaeda calendar.
Before the war, he stated there was no link between Al Qaeda and Iraq, and if there was one, it was very tenuous. Now, there is a definite link.
His sources tell him that as many as 3000 Saudis have moved into Iraq for the jihad against Americans. Figure does not include numbers from any other country.
Very ominous message from him concerning the future in Iraq.
Suicide and car bombings in Iraq, get used to it.
Like Peshawar in Pakistan was the magnet for Muslims battling the Soviets in Afghanistan, Bergen states that Iraq is the new magnet for jihadist.

Hey, have a good morning! I'm sure this news got your day off to a good start.

1. I know Peter Bergin quite well...
He's the real deal when it comes to analysis of alQaeda. His interview of binLaden is one of the definitive chronicles of how UBL operates. Peter's more than just an attractive talking head on CNN; he knows from whence he speaks.

2. I saw Peter on CNN this morning and...
he believes that one reason for the attack on the UN building was to warn other countries, organizations not to get involved in Iraq, not to help the US. This point is the first one that makes sense to me and I suspect the warning will work, big time!

The US is on it's own and it is very much a quagmire.

3. Now that the anti-terrorist Saddam is gone, I suppose they
are comfortable coming to Iraq.

Who's fault could that be?

4. Would it were that others would have the sense to understand this.
But they are too busy listening to Mr. Limbaugh.
