After seeing the group stump far too often for the GOP though I've abandoned them. Like a fellow was saying on another thread, I'm a gun owner, (I probably own more guns than the Michigan Militia at that) but I am totally fine with checking backgrounds at gun shows, or anywhere for that matter. I have nothing to hide, I'm no criminal, and I would never pull a gun on anyone unless they pulled a deadly weapon on me first and that's only if I have no other means of escape but to defend myself.
If the NRA would ever go back to its roots of teaching gun safety and responsibility and simply advocate those issues, and what the state laws are concerning gun ownership and carrying permits I'd happily rejoin.
But lately I flip through issues of their magazine "American Rifleman" (my father is still a member) and the new president and his team of editors spend all their time going after Kerry and hashing out ridiculous conspiracy theories out one after another.
Before I rejoin I want to see new leadership, one that focuses on firearms themselves, safety, laws, tips for better sighting, latest (legal) gagdets, ect and that's it. NO POLITICS.
Maybe I'll get my wish when Micheal Moore becomes president of the NRA.
