John Barleycorn Must Die (for my DU brothers and sisters)
Edited on Thu Jul-10-03 03:57 PM by WilliamPitt
"And little Sir John with the nut-brown bowl,
And his brandy in a glass,
And little Sir John with the nut brown bowl,
Proved the strongest man at last."
- Traffic

Yes, the GOP has the majority in Congress.

Yes, this means initiating any investigation from there will be like pulling teeth.

Yes, they have the Supreme Court, too.

Yes, they have the media.

I don't care. The phase we are entering is what one might call an Endgame.

Remember who took Nixon down. It was a bunch of Republicans who took the long walk to the White House and told him to resign.

It will not be easy, and it will not be done by anyone but us. The document says We The People for a reason.

I smell ozone on the air, a whiff of lightning, and a rumble beyond the hills. The air is still, expectant, tensed. Something is coming.

That something is us. Now is the time.

Now.

At the point of greatest pressure, we must now apply the greatest force. These guys are yellow right up the belly and down the back, and when the storm comes, they will scatter like chickens.

Believe it. The A#1 rule of all neoconservatives is "Overreach." They have always done it, and they have always gotten their backs broken because of it.

The stakes are monstrously higher now, but the axiom remains the same.

Put the bricks to them. Write your congresspeople, write each and every media outlet that runs stories on these Iraq/9-11 matters and thank them gushingly for doing so, even if they have whored themselves in the past. Send emails to everyone you know with all the information they need. Put a sign in your window or in your yard.

Muster the army on the field.

Grab your shield.

Sharpen your sword.

The order to charge has come.

Do you hear the footsteps? I hear the footsteps.

We are the stronger in this match. Believe it.

Charge.

1. Screw the sword and shield- I got me sum guns!
I believe the Bush and Republican arrogance will be their downfall. Those over-reaching bastards!

3. And another English tune...
William Pitt...your closing remarks bring to mind the last stanzas of Jerusalem....

Bring me my bow of burning gold!
Bring me my arrows of desire!
Bring me my spear: O clouds unfold!
Bring me my Chariot of Fire!

I will not cease from mental fight;
Nor shall my sword sleep in my hand

16. Haha....
... I also love that poem, and the over-the-top musical rendition by Emerson Lake & Palmer.

Even though I am not a Christian, that poem is stirring to me.

4. I wish you would repost what you wrote about how WE
must be the "Greatest Generation."

Your thinking and your writing are just incredible. Thank you, Will Pitt.

6. When the enemy's own actions become the weapon
It's a martial arts philosophy. I predict that their own responses will be their downfall. Overweening hubris is downright stupid when all is said and done.

7. I see footsteps
I recommend that everyone take a brief respite and read or re-read The Art of War by Sun Tzu.

9. I got this theory......
There are actually some good Republicans of conscience who have kids. They aren't too keen on having their children condemned to living in the new corporate Republican fascist state that the neo-cons seem intent on bringing to our nation.

They are reaching that point when they will have to choose sides...and I think they will choose the side of sanity and true American values.

12. Actually it would go to Hastert.
Which might be slightly better than Cat Killer or the Bugman, but not by much.

14. Keep shaking the trees
and eventually the nuts will fall out. We have to keep the pressure up. We need to force their hand. We need to make them make more mistakes. This presidency cannot go full term. He is a danger to the world. The entire lot of them must be ushered out by an indignant people. They do not represent the people by any sense of the term. The unelected, unthinking, unpresident must go.

21. There's a verse
that runs through my head on occasion. I first heard it in 67-68 on underground radio:

So if ever yer a'walkin
along Radcliffe highway,
the recruitin' party come
a beatin' their drum.
Dont be listed and attested
into the King's army,
or else the King's duty
will lie heavy on thee.

I have no memory of the title or who performed it. Any one out there have a clue?

20. They heard my footsteps in about 15 or 16 Washington/regional offices
I called my Congressman (Henry Waxman - RAH!) and Sens. Feinstein and Boxer. Then, I called a number of other Senators and Congresspeople. To EACH of their staffers who answered the phones, I quoted the results of yesterday's Wolf Blitzer poll (Should Congress launch an inquiry into bush's handling of the Iraq intelligence? - 91 YES, 9 NO at closing) and reminded them that this indicates...

a) it's not true that America doesn't care about being dragged into war under false pretenses, and

b) it's not true that America just wants to give bush another pass.

They all took note. Some even took notes.

Charge, indeed!
