Whether she was a lousy spokesperson or not isn't the point. They explicitly stated that it was because of her "remarks" at the fundraiser the Republicans are trying to turn into a Wellstone funeral. I'm not going to give my money to a company that willing to knuckle under right-wing pressures.

17. That's fine, but this isn't a battle worth fighting, in my opinion.

Slim-Fast may have buckled under wingnut pressure this time, but they've been a friend to the Democratic Party for years.

If folks want to write letters and boycott the company, that's ok, but I still don't think this is "scandalous" enough to garner much of our time or attention.

20. It's an easy battle to fight

One email and I simply stop using SlimFast. And I disagree that it's not one worth fighting. Everytime the right wing is successful in campaigns like this, it is one more indication to people and companies that their point of view is the prevailing one. They're within their rights to drop her but I think they need to know that the outrage they were subjected to was manufactured for political reasons.

31. I disagree. This is a HUGE scandal.

The issue is censorship, and the right wingers have been going full tilt for quite some time now. If they're not getting their minions to call radio stations, and foment Dixie Chick boycotts, then they're trying to ruin the careers of Susan Sarandon, or anybody else who dares speak out against Team Bush. There are several other examples of the right wingers trying to financially punish anybody who dares express a left wing opinion. We should fight this with every fiber of our being.

I just wrote them. I told them I'm a university professor who teaches business strategy (that's true, btw) and ALL of my students, both current and future, are going to know that Slim Fast makes decisions based on political partisanship rather than good business sense. I wished them well as a "right wing only" company.
