41. I'm sorry, but double entendre doesn't count.
During the event, comedian Whoopi Goldberg made sexually explicit comments that were puns on Bush's name and singer John Mellencamp referred to the president as a "thug." Comedian Chevy Chase called Bush a "liar" and "bright as an egg timer," while actor Paul Newman called the Bush administration's tax cuts "borderline criminal." (Kerry bash raises $7.5 million)

Come on, now. You probably hear worse on Comedy Central.

There's nothing to be ashamed of on that video. I'm more disgusted that some democrats are acting like there is.

If Whoopi thinks Dumbya is a "bush" - FINE. It's a JOKE, and in a free country we are allowed to make JOKES about the "leader", even when he is a lying, murdering, moronic POS.

Mary Beth Cahill to Ken Mehlman: Release the Bush Records

Washington, DC – Kerry-Edwards campaign manager Mary Beth Cahill today sent the following letter to Bush Cheney ’04 Campaign Manager Ken Mehlman in response to a letter Mehlman sent yesterday:

July 13, 2004
Ken Mehlman
Campaign Manager
BUSH-CHENEY '04, Inc.

Dear Ken:

Over the past several months, allies of the President have questioned John Kerry’s patriotism while your staff has criticized his service in Vietnam. Republicans and their allies have gone so far as to launch attacks against his wife and your campaign has run $80 million in negative ads that have been called baseless, misleading and unfair by several independent observers.

Considering that the President has failed to even come close to keeping his promise to change the tone in Washington, we find your outrage over and paparazzi-like obsession with a fund-raising event to be misplaced. The fact is that the nation has a greater interest in seeing several documents made public relating to the President’s performance in office and personal veracity that the White House has steadfastly refused to release. As such, we will not consider your request until the Bush campaign and White House make public the documents/materials listed below:

? Military records: Any copies of the President’s military records that would actually prove he fulfilled the terms of his military service. For that matter, it would be comforting to the American people if the campaign or the White House could produce more than just a single person to verify that the President was in Alabama when said he was there. Many Americans find it odd that only one person out of an entire squadron can recall seeing Mr. Bush.

? Halliburton: All correspondence between the Defense Department and the White House regarding the no-bid contracts that have gone to the Vice-President’s former company. Some material has already been made public. Why not take a campaign issue off the table by making all of these materials public so the voters can see how Halliburton has benefited from Mr. Cheney serving as Vice-President?

? The Cheney Energy Task Force: For an Administration that claims to hate lawsuits, it’s ironic that the Bush White House is taking up the Courts’ time to keep the fact that Ken Lay and Enron wrote its energy policy in secret behind closed doors. Please release the documents so that the country can learn what lobbyists and special interests wrote the White House energy policy.

? Medicare Bill: Please release all White House correspondence between the pharmaceutical industry and the Administration regarding the Medicare Bill, which gave billions to some of the President’s biggest donors. In addition, please provide all written materials that directed the Medicare actuary to withhold information from Congress about the actual cost of the bill.

? Prison Abuse Documents: A few weeks ago, the White House released a selected number of documents regarding the White House’s involvement in laying the legal foundation for the interrogation methods that were used in Iraq. Please release the remaining documents.

We also wanted to wish you a happy anniversary. As we are sure you and the attorneys representing the President, Vice-President and other White House officials are aware, today marks one year since Administration sources leaked the identity of a covert CIA agent to Bob Novak in an effort to retaliate against a critic of the Administration.

In light of the fact that the Administration began gutting the laws protecting the nation’s forests yesterday, we hope you will accept the paper on which this letter is written as an anniversary gift. (The one year anniversary is known as the “paper anniversary.”)

Sincerely,

Mary Beth Cahill

Campaign Manager

Has anyone seen this letter covered on any of the networks? The only place I've seen it refered to was at the end of a CNN report with the headling "Bush blasts Kerry over fund-raiser." It just seems like the Kerry campaign's response is a hell of a lot more interesting.

13. They smack of desperation
It is almost like they know they will lose in November (again)unless they can find some "Hail Mary" pass into the end zone.

Look at some of the other stuff they are doing. Telling Pakistan they want Osama and preferably during the Dem National Convention.

Breaking the seperation of church and state by going into churches to find voters.

I saw some bigwig conservative Republican dude say he keeps telling the White House that many conservatives are not motivated and will either stay home on election day or not vote for Bush at all (in massive numbers)....and he said they are not listening to him.

(Sorry I don't know who the guy is. He was in a wheelchair and I tuned in halfway through.)
I really feel like this is Kerry -Edwards race to lose and even if Bush has Osama waiting in the White House basement until October that might not be enough.

15. WTF?????? Is this the McCarthy era??? This has to stop!!
This should scare the holy hell out of anyone that lived through the 50's, regardless of the political bent. Have we really sat back and thought about this? ABout what they are asking for? I KNOW we are not supposed to liken Bush, Rove, Cheney, and Asscroft to the Nazi types... but c'mon! They want a video released because CITIZENS complained about the LEADER? Why? So they can be scorned, harrassed? I had a friend who had escaped with her family from Romania.. back in the 70's. SHe told me that you could not casually speak against the government anywhere... there was always someone listening.. and reprecussions if you were found to be criticising the LEADER of the their country. So.. can anyone tell me HOW America, right now, is so different than.. say.. Saddamn's Iraq? Or 1970's Romania? Oh wait... I guess we're just fortunate that they dont' KILL people who disagree.. only lead them away in handcuffs for wearing anti Bush t-shirts or carrying anti-Bush signs in a sea of pro-Bush signs. WHERE IS THE MEDIA ON THIS SHIT???? :grr:

Oh, and W's "Base" are the "haves and have-mores, the elite", but folks in the entertainment business are not allowed to hold opinions on W and his junta?

20. I think it's a good reason to stop all of the name calling.
Before I get flamed, I want to explain that it needs to stop on BOTH sides.

It may be amusing at first, but it is disrespectful, immature, and rude. I really think that the celebrities at the fundraiser were wrong for saying those things. Bush has done a lot of abhorrent things (I won't bother with the litany here, I'm sure we could all amass an enormous list), but resorting to name-calling isn't going to gain us anything. We need to show that our candidate is better on his own merits, and not just by putting down the opposition.

If Dems continue to call Bush names, we're no better than the Repubs with their "Hitlery" nonsense. Let's all grow up a little, please?

52. Just because you dislike his behavior...
That's no reason to attack him personally by calling him rude names. Many of his actions as president have been atrocious misuses of presidential power. But that is his BEHAVIOR. I don't know him well enough PERSONALLY to know if he truly is a "thug" or any of the other names he has been called.

49. I'm sorry, I didn't intend it to be "Rovian."
I just feel that if we're trying to show that our candidate and our perspective are better than theirs, we need to act like it. All too often, name-calling is used when one can't think up a logical argument against the argument of one's opposition. So, when we use name-calling as a strategy, it makes us appear weak, that we couldn't come up with a suitable defense for our position. I'd rather that we appear as strong as possible, because I do NOT want that man in office for another four years!

I'm not saying "roll over" by any stretch of the imagination. I feel that we are the strongest party at this point because we're all angry and wanting change. We need to channel that anger and frustration constructively to take back the White House and the country... not waste it on petty name-calling.

51. There's some big differences between last election and this one.
In the last election, it was so difficult to differentiate one candidate from the other, except maybe on one or two issues. But thanks to Mr. Bush, the Repub party has now veered clear to the right, leaving a lot of room between the Dem and Repub party platforms. This election isn't quite the coin toss that the previous one was.

Kerry also has the advantage of having a lot of people flocking to his side that are angry with the way things are currently, and they are ready for change. After Clinton, things were in fairly good shape. We weren't at war, the economy was doing ok (even though it was just beginning to stagnate), etc. People don't vote unless they have a reason, and pissed off people are the most likely to vote. Kerry just needs to keep emphasizing how his election will promote this change, and let Bush stew in the mess he's created.

If they somehow got a hold of the video and released it to the media wouldn't they be distributing pirated material and infringing on Whoopi Goldberg's copyrighted performance? Send the MPAA after them!

But seriously, why do they think making a stink about this benefits them? If the public saw a video of celebrities trashing the chimp how is that going to help his popularity?

in the White House DEMAND anything? Yeah, Whoopi pointing to her vulva was a little gross. But so is using the "f" word freely in the Senate Chamber (and, regarding Bush, all the TIME, according to Tucker Carlson). And flipping the bird on the campaign trail, as Bush is said to have done recently in Lancaster, PA.

So they called him a thug and a borderline criminal and all that.

He IS a thug, and a liar, and a war criminal, and a de facto murderer (of innocent Iraqis and this country's finest because of sending them into an illegitimate war), and a guard deserter and a former coke and alcohol addict and ...
