Exactly HOW STUPID is George? A classic example:
50 million people are experience a POWER FAILURE, and nutty George goes on TELEVISION to reassure them that the Government is on the case and they should stay calm.

TELEVISION? HELLO? How many people in a blackout are watching a TV Set?

1. Not to defend George, but what would you have him do?
Not that George is smart or anything near it, but would you have expected him to drive slowly across three states with a flashlight on his face telling everyone it's OK? Just wondering :)

8. Every time the president speaks...
there are microphones from all types of media, including print media journalists recording it. He went out on all media as he always does.

12. I have news for you.
The only two stations I heard his voice on (a fine emetic by the way) were WDET (NPR Detroit) and WWJ (all news, and they just did clips).

I think they have figured out in the media that if they're going to boost Bush, they have to limit the time he actually talks.

3. Tyler - you owe me a new keyboard
Since I've spewed juice all over my current one from this post.

Great observation. Bush should have used Radio since more folks would have used radio during the blackout because most folks own battery operated radios and that would be their only source to get news updates about the blackout

6. I think I'm going to call him "Nutty George" from now on.
I mean he's got to be nutty: you would have to be world class stupid to think you were actually in charge of that crew....

On second thought...

4. I dunno
I think driving slowly across three states with a flashlight on his face might have been a lot better. Especially if he didn't talk at all. I've long since reached the point where I cannot tolerate his voice and immediately switch stations or turn off whatever I'm watching/listening to if I hear him. Oddly enough, I don't feel as if I'm missing anything important by doing that.

I still have DU.

he's on a typical, "man of the people" 35 day vacation.

10. True or not...
it still makes me laugh...

From the news article at the time:

"When Stevie Wonder sat down at the keyboard center stage, President Bush in the front row got very excited. He smiled and started waving at Wonder, who understandably did not respond. After a moment Bush realized his mistake and slowly dropped the errant hand back to his lap. "I know I shouldn't have," a witness told us yesterday, "but I started laughing.""

11. Not even tempted to defend George
but the idea of making a speech on TV was to reassure THE REST OF US, that everything possible was being done. (btw: he failed miserably)

People on the ground in NYC were tuned via portable radio to local info to keep informed so dubya made little no difference to them..

14. That is what is so NUTS.
If I have power, am sitting back in 72 degree AC with a "coldie" watching the box, how worried do I look?

I need no reassurance. It only serves to make me nervous that the power just might go out on me too. Serves the opposite of the intended purpose, but that's Nutty George for you.

15. I'm all for Bush bashing, but this is stupid.
Any president would have gone on TV. In fact, many of us here were Bashing him for waiting so long and for not cancelling his fund raiser.

16. How Stupid? Let's See:
1) He gets anything he wants.

2) He takes no responsibility for anything that goes wrong.

3) He is not held accountable by the media for anything.

Yep, that's stupid, all right.
