Poll question: Would You Consider Yourself A Liberal, Moderate or Conservative DUer?
We all know we're basically left-of-center here at DU. But how left-of-center are you?

I guess the best way to desribe what I'm asking is - compared to other DUers, where do you think you fit in on the DU ideological spectrum?

A liberal DUer - which is basically an extreme, socialist left-wink pinko commie (but in a nice way). :)

A moderate DUer - which is basically a solid, card-carrying liberal.

A conservative DUer - which is basically a left-of-center person who's not quite considered politically moderate, but probably wouldn't be showing up at any Green rallies either.

4. me too
I'm no socialist, but communism is in my blood (literally, my great grandparents met and fell in love at a communist party rally in NYC).

:)

I'd be considered a pinko by my conservative friends though.

I'm moderate relative to this forum, but liberal with regard to most people I encounter.

(note - I'm not saying DU isn't real life, because we're all people, we just don't include conservatives here).

8. I would probably say moderate DUer
I'm definitely not a liberal DUer, I think capitalism is the best system and I don't think the U.S. is satan. Nor do I support Castro. (Sorry, couldn't resist) I'm also very optimistic about this great country, I've noticed a lot of the far left Duers are often gloom and doomers when it comes to the U.S.'s future.

I wouldn't say I'm a conservative DUer, because I don't have a hatred for the Greens or Nader, I simply think they are irrelevent at the moment. I also believe in government social programs, and think gun control should be taken to a higher level.

I'm socially very liberal, moderate on economic issues, and more interventionist than most hardcore liberals on foreign policy.

edit: philosophically I am at basis liberal; I'm just at the conservative end here.

50. You can say I'm at the conservative end--for a DUer
Unlike you, I'm an economic liberal and a social moderat, but a cultural moderate-conservative, in that I personally don't approve of some lifestyles, but on the other hand, I wouldn't dare dictate to others how to live, either. I'd rather let God do the job of judging--that's his job, after all.

11. Because I believe that taxation should be non-negotiable...
I am probably considered a "liberal DUer".

Don't like paying taxes? Well, then don't expect government to excel. And don't come crying to us when your state budget is in the toilet and programs are being slashed left and right and the deficit is spiraling. Remember, it says "We the people..." in the constitution. You didn't like paying taxes, and now your going to enjoy sub-par education, inefficiency, bad roads, and a host of other rewards that accompany human greed.

47. Lived in Cheyenne for 20 years
Edited on Mon Aug-18-03 07:37 PM by Walt Starr
Ran for public office twice in Laramie County.

Attended LCCC and UW.

I was nominated for West Point and the Naval accademy by none other than Dick (Head) Cheney when he was Wyoming's lone representative. This was back in 1980.

Beautiful country. Loved the mountains and even the high plains.

The politics in the state lean somewhere to the right of Ghengis Khan though....

28. A moderate reconciler agitator
Just believe compromise is what it takes to make anything happen at all, but also that being an agitator is sometimes necessary to get someone to budge that toe forward just an inch. Sometimes things go forward only one inch at a time.

34. Social Liberal/Fiscal Conservative
The more socially liberal the better. The more Fiscally Conservative the better.

I call myself a moderate. But really, I am more on the extreme on the other ends.

Balance the budget. Flat Tax after you make over poverty level. No Property Tax. Let people do what they hell they want to do.

Almost a libretarian, but I think the government needs to help people out and provide things individuals can't do on their own.

with Pepperbelly's poll on favorite candidates where Dean and Clark are the clear favorites.

Maybe there are different people posting on this poll, because Clark and and Dean would probably not even make the "moderate Du'er" category.

41. That Is A Tough Question
I think most folks on this site are to the left of all the Democractic presidential candidates save Dennis Kucinich and Al Sharpton. The fact I leave out Carol Moseley Braun is telling.
That is pretty far left. Further to the left than ,say ninety five percent of the electorate.

I consider myself somewhere between a garden variety liberal and a New Democrat. To the left of Joe Lieberman and Joe Biden but to the right of Paul Wellstone and Ted Kennedy.

Maybe by sharing with you folks my political heroes you can tell what my politics are. My political heroes:

Franklin Roosevelt

Harry Truman

John Kennedy

Martin Luther King

Bobby Kennedy

Bill Clinton

If this poll is truly representative, then a majority of DUer's consider themselves to the left of the average DUer. On a similar note, a majority of Americans consider themselves above-average drivers. :/
