Where is Daschle?
Edited on Mon Aug-18-03 04:28 PM by Stevendsmith
Is he just invisible now?

What a gift to Bush to have such a pathetic wuss for an "opposition" leader.

Disgusting.

2. I've wondered the same thing
The guy hasn't said boo in months. Then again, I'd rather he sit out the rest of this session; he does nothing but help *.

3. Traveling
This is not an excuse for him but every August he travels around his home state of South Dakota and talks to the people.

Daschle realizes South Dakota is not MASSACHUSETTS.

11. Here's Tom's "Travel Web Log"
http://daschle.senate.gov/travels_with_tom.htm

It is filled with interesting entries like this:

<snip>

Friday, August 15th

"I spent the day in Sioux Falls, and rural Minnehaha, McCook, Miner and Lake counties. I thank all of those wonderful South Dakotans who greeted me and shared so many personal stories and opinions. I especially enjoyed stopping at the Carthage Straw Bale Museum. I highly recommend that our readers stop in Carthage and see it too."

The Carthage Straw Bale Museum......I'll be sure to put that on my next vacation agenda..Sheesh!!

5. Dashle's approach
only helps Bush.

Dashle has no public profile. Voters will say, 'at least we know what Bush and the Repug Senate stands for - we know nothing about Dashle stands'.

6. He's probably criss-crossing the state of South Dakota
Really, aside from the presidential candidates and a few members of Congress making the rounds of the Sunday talk shows, you aren't going to hear much from elected officials this month. We call it "recess," and some members of Congress call it "the district work period." In short, it's August, it's hot, and it's usually a slow news month.

Besides, it's not as though we're seeing Frist on the news every night either.

12. Huh?
If what Tom Daschle is doing is called fighting for his life, he might has well throw in the towel. He and the overwhelming majority Democrats have been doormats for Bush and his band of lunatics for too god damn long. So, is supporting the passage of the Patriot Act, the tax cuts for the obscenely rich, and voting for the fake war fighting for one's life?

Get a grip? It's time for this country to get a grip on reality and eject Bush and Co. from power. We need some vertebrates in the Democratic Party--not cowardly pushovers like Daschle.

13. Jesus Christ ...
the gops have been running major tv against him and the election is still more than a year away.

Personally, I think the insistence of some DU members for our leadership to set a hysterical tone in their discourse is both naive and dangerous. I am very glad that they follow their own counsel.

14. I'm Not Suggesting Hysterics
Hysterics are for the Coulters, Savages, and Limbaughs of this world. I'm suggesting that the Democrats arm themsleves with the facts and mount a vigourous attack on the administration's abysmal record--both domestic and foreign. They have been too afraid to be painted as unpatriotic. They have been to afraid to rock the boat. They have let the administration of the hook time and time again.

20. We need a new minority leader.
Unfortunately, Daschle is from a hotly contested red state. I do think we should get a new minority leader in the Senate-- Durbin, Corzine, Feingold, et cetera would be sweet.

It would be cool seeing Kucinich leading in the House as well.

16. what universe are you living in?
Which tax cuts did he support? Sorry he didn't hold a gun to Zell Miller's head and force him to vote with every other democrat against this last one.

and what "fake" war did he vote for? I didn't know the senate handled fake foreign policy. I think Jerry Bruckheimer takes care of that

17. What Universe Am I Living In?
I thought I was living in the one in which a Democratic opposition party and its leadership is expected to have a backbone and stand up to right wing radicals that seek the starvation of the public realm at home and Pax Americana abroad. But I have found myself in a universe where the opposition party rolls over like puppies to these maniacs. Are you trying to tell me that Daschle put up proper fight against Bush's handout to the ultra-rich? And yes, I'd call a war based on fabricated evidence and deception "fake." Unfortunately, the deaths are the real thing. Daschle played the cowed doormat when we needed sane opposition to Bush's criminal war. He needs to go.

10. One of the "reelection issues" that came up
recently is that the GOP is saying his house in state is WAY TOO BIG...

I know Tom responded, basically with a "Tough, it's my house" type of response, but coming from Repugs, it's sort of galling...
