From a email I recieved: Dualism
I just realized something important about the trend in politics in America while contemplating the efforts at recalling Davis and impeaching Bush.

The model which sheds light on the entire process the best is the variant of the vertical versus the horizontal which relies on a dualistic principle.

Note that the neo-conservative movement shares one thing in common with much of Judeo-Christian and Witchcraft world views: that of dualism. They all know that they are not only "FOR" something or someone, but also that they are clearly "AGAINST" something or someone.

That dualistic model is a simple one which defines the individual as a set of only two vectors of motivation and allows that person to move much more effectively in a rather complex universe and appear to not lose their way.

That is clearly not the way of the liberal (of which I am proud to count myself as one) nor even that of my Old Guard Republican (very highly reasoning, reasonable, and reasoned) friends. We among that group have the courage to face the complexities of the world and realize that there is far more gray than black or white. Quandary and Dilemma are our lives and existentialism is the only thing we trust and we accept that. It makes us far less effective at change and also aware that just maybe, change was never supposed to be easy or fast.

I notice that I object vehemently to having to vote in most elections out of fear that a more undesirable candidate should win. It hurts me to the quick and marrow to realize each time I vote, that I have been brought down to the level of the dualist. Why shouldn't we all be protected from the dualists who are going to vote against our chosen candidates as much as for their chosen candidates? Do we have to fight fire with fire?

I believe that the current recall effort is a banal and very base attempt by those who hold that dualist model close to their hearts, at raising the stakes for us all and thus forcing everyone to follow a dualist line of thinking when that is not normally in our nature.
............. not unlike the Catholic Church of ages ago deciding that if you weren't Catholic, then you must certainly be a witch.

I really do hate the either/or people. (Have I become one to hold that point of view?)

signed ...... "troubled in America."

1. Dualism
"I really do hate the either/or people. "

There are two kinds of people, the dualists and the non-dualists. :)

I was thinking about the us vs. them thing. I may be wrong or this may be too obvious to mention, but it seems like the Bush Ad. has been successful at defining the situation as --US Vs. the WORLD-- (esp. Iraq, Iran, and Korea - EVIL - +France, etc.). THEY don't say so much about Democrats (the have Limbaugh and Colter for that) resulting in this situation where if WE (liberals) seem to be against THEM - then we've missed the program and are unpatriotic - (like we are the ones with the problem, not them).
