There is the "Chicago Outdoor Film Festival" in Grant Park and the suburban town I live in has "Movie Nights" at the park district pavilion.
I propose we all ask for F911 to be shown later this summer as a public service. I also propose contacting Ebert and Roeper to see if they will help in this effort.
All of this info is about Chicago, but I imagine most decent sized cities have similar programs.
It will take a while to make these arrangements and by then the inital push for theaters will be over. Has anyone heard about special rates for distribution for free community showings? Maybe we should include contacting Michael Moore about considering it.
This is from the Mayor's Office of Special Events website about the Outdoor Film Festival:

Film critics Roger Ebert and Richard Roeper, hosts of Ebert and Roeper at the Movies, will hold a Q & A session with audience members on opening night, (July 13). They will share comments, anecdotes, ideas and criticisms. Ebert and Roeper take center stage at 8:15 p.m.

Movies are, in part, chosen on the basis of historical significance.
-----------------
Roger Ebert gave F911 great reviews and 3 1/2 stars. Richard Roeper said "...it's the most important movie of the year." and "This is a film that should be seen by every American, whether you're 100 percent in favor of the war in Iraq, completely opposed to it-or most important of all, if you're somewhere in the middle."

I don't know if we can get the city to show F911 as part of their regular Outdoor Film Festival lineup since the movies are already chosen. But it is worth a try. It may also be possible to get a date added or (more likely) to use the facilities and equipment for a showing sponsored by local peace groups.
Here is contact info for the Mayor's Office of Special Events. The telephone number says you can talk to someone after listening to the description of an event (like the film festival) during regular business hours.
I am also going to call my town's park district tomorrow. Same thing - may not be able to get the current line-up of movies changed, but may be able to get use of the facilities for an extra showing.
