Miller was spewing the worst shill garbage; actually said "its us or them".
Leno gets him with "What did you think about Reagan back then (80s)."
Miller was forced to admit how he had changed and repudiate his past. He said that in retrospective, Reagan was right, defeat communism. (Miller has the most sickening overuse of propaganda catch phrases.)
Then Leno hit him at the end with "How's your show doing?"
First he said how he admired Lenos show, then he said his show was doing a lot better now and he begged the audience to watch it. You could see his disgust at his own disbelief of the lie he had to tell to have face. He turned away from Leno with this "I can't believe I just had to say that" look.
It was pretty skillful at being totally congenial but still eviscerating your guest.
It was also entertaining to watch the kid gloves handling of the same sort of tension on Conan O'Brien with Michael Moore.
