Anyone able to verify this? Re: Hussein, June 30th, assassination
Heard this on Critical Times, a weekly leftist-type radio show on a local station here in Tampa. The host said that on June 30th, the handover of Saddam will occur, symbolically. We will have someone present Saddam to an Iraqi police officer. And the host claimed that the PM has said he 'doesn't care' what the police officer does at that point.

Pretext for assassination?

It would be really disheartening to me, to see Hussein assassinated before standing trial. (And after standing trial, actually) But I haven't found any backup sources for this.

2. Last I heard they weren't turning him over because of security.
But that would put us in violation of Geneva Convention rules. Like Bushco cares!

I don't see why he doesn't get turned over to the World Court, outside of the fact Bush wouldn't be able to control that court and keep his dad and Reagan out of it.

5. Memo? Memo?
I thought they said nemo and I went out and bought the DVD. I was wondering what that fish and his friends had to do with all this. Damn, I never got the memo.

4. Right. Iraq gets "legal" control, we retain physical custody.
Which makes the legal control totally meaningless, of course.

6. Pretty much how we're handling the entire situation.
We "hand over" the government to the Iraqis, then make their laws for them and send an additional 15,000 troops in to "keep the peace".

Meanwhile, we give ourselves blanket immunity so that we can't be tried for any crimes we commit in the country.

Nice deal.

7. ICC can have no jurisdiction over Saddam's crimes
because it can only deal with crimes occuring after its inception.

And the United States, Iraq, and Iran are not party to the Rome Treaty.

10. I know * "unsigned" it
but it still never would have gotten ratified by the Senate.
