4. I dislike your graphic
I'm not trying to be hurtful, I just wanted you to know. I believe in the usenet rule that the first person to mention nazis and/or hitler automatically loses the argument.

Though I always loved Larry David's stand up routine,"You know what I always liked about Hitler? He never took any shit from magicians. Vhere is za rabbit? You VILL tell me vhere ze rabbit vent!"

10. Hmm
I'm not mentioning it. Bush laid it all out for me. His administration bares a scary resemblance to 1930's Germany. That graphic reminds me every day why i am fighting so hard for my country. I understand some are uncomfortable with anything that congers up memories of that awful time, but, this is not the time to be timid. We can never change the future without remembering the past.

I hope that helps. If not you may ignore me, i will understand.

26. you gotta admit
when you compare bush to hitler it's like giving republicans a free card to compare liberals to communists (unless you are a communist in which case i don't want to know you)

but, technically speaking, there are a lot of similarities between nazi germany and bush regime - both used monopolistic corporations and ideals of 'free market' to consolidate power (thank god we have anti-trust laws in this country), and both labeled their opposition as 'unpatriotic',... that is all, of course, historically speaking...

58. There are ugly similarities, I think it's the differences that people are
hoping that you will respect. The entire family of my aunt was split, one at a time from pubis to sternum because her uncle said that Hitler was a pig. She survived by faking death and falling under the dead bodies with the blood of her loved ones running all around her. She knew she couldn't make a sound. She snuck back into the city and stayed as the neice of a rich Christian family when she met my uncle Ernie.

He passed in 86 but she still sends Christmas cards in the most charming accent.

Bush could become Hitler, given his druthers, but he's not there yet.

47. What do you have against communists?
I'm more of a capitalist myself, but what exactly is wrong with being a communist? The Communists played a large part of defeating the Nazis; arguably a larger part than we and our European allies did.

Christ was more of a communist than capitalist.

There are different forms of communism. The communism practiced by the old Soviet system was a corrupt power structure that was far from what Marx preached.

Some of our best friends are communists, and that includes during the election cycle.

Why don't you want to know any communists?

Are you afraid they might share their property with each other?

53. Why
wouldn't you want to know a Communist? I'm not a Communist but I have plenty of socialist ideals. Would you immediately dislike someone because of their political beliefs? What about their skin color or sexual orientation? Its weird someone could hate another person for only the thoughts in their heads. Its not like the American Communist Party is trying to overthrow the government or trying to turn Americans into Atheists. I'm just trying to get a "handle" on your hatred.

59. lol sorry i don't hate communists
but yeah, soviet union, forcing atheism, incarcarating people for starting a business, those are a few things that automatically come to my mind when communism is mentioned. since every communist country that is or was out there is pretty messed up, you gotta understand...

socialism on the other hand, as a concept, is not a bad word. i don't agree with it completely, i think we need an equal mix of socialism and capitalism in our society, but yes, jesus was a socialist hippie, no question there

69. Don't let people intimidate you here. I am a liberal but I think
communism is a bad deal.
Communism and Fascism both lead to totalitarianism. Communism hasn't worked anywhere it has been tried, so I have no idea why people continue imagining that it will work somewhere in the future.
Ask people who have lived under communism if they want to go back there. With the exception of some people who were part of the powerful elite of the system, not many people will say yes. IN fact we get some of our most right wing immigrants from former or present communist states.

72. Sure its a bad idea but
is it a good idea to condemn an entire nation for its political beliefs? Our country under Reagan starved and bankrupted an entire nation by spending and arming our nation to the teeth and in that process he ended up denying the US money better spent on education, health care, and the environment. For a nation to go on a crusade against a political party is no different than a nation attacking differing religious factions. Most of us would admit Communism was a bad idea based on its past models but could a form of Communism/Socialism/Capitalism not work in the future? In that mix Utopia may be found and it would be a shame if we lost it because "closed-minded" thinkers sent it the way of the Passenger Pigeon or the Tasmanian Tiger. Ideas can be like endangered species in our current political climate. These ideas should be allowed to grow, be nurtured, and massaged into a better world for all. They should never be crushed under the boot heels of Reagan-like oppression and policy.

62. Interesting that you mention Karl Rove since he was the first person
to compare Bush to Hitler. Of course it was in an admiring and worshipful way.

Drudge excerpting from Woodward's book "Bush At War:

ROVE THOUGHT POST-9/11 WORLD SERIES GAME LIKE NAZI RALLY

"The president emerged wearing a New York Fire Department windbreaker. He raised his arm and gave a thumbs-up to the crowd on the third base side of the field. Probably 15,000 fans threw their arms in the air imitating the motion.

He then threw a strike from the rubber, and the stadium erupted. Watching from owner George Steinbrenner’s box, Karl Rove thought, It’s like being at a Nazi rally." (p. 277)

19. I agree with you there
Its like the net equivalent to "Oh yeah?....Well, fuck you!". Its just too easy. I was actually compared to the Nazis only recently, by a relative no less, for daring to defend Colin Quinn's right to spew whatever venom he happened to be spewing that evening. Apparently, by his logic I somehow bore responsibility for his vile sentiments because I defended his 1st amendment rights to voice them, and on television no less. I was naughty and reminded him that since he mentioned Nazis, that I technically had won the argument. He didn't take kindly to that. }(

Welcome to DU! :hi:

22. His grandpa was friends with Hitler... Does that count?
GW has lots of blood money in a blind trust that came from Nazi death camps. Does that count?

GW invaded a country based on lies that didn't attack us first. Does that count?

GW was appointed, NOT elected. Does that count?

I guess you forgot to add that to the equation of YOUR argument.

I could continue, but I'll give a few other folks a chance to add to the things you left out of "the argument."

27. Actually, this was debunked on Air America
A guest talked about how and why this Prescott Bush/Nazi connection came to be, but said it was exaggerated. It's not the case that P Bush was actually trading directly with the enemy. I can only offer my memory of what was said, can't prove it. It was during Franken's show ... that's the best I can do. Maybe another DUer heard it too.

36. Well, I spent many days reading Senate archives over the last couple years
and declassified information from Dutch governmental files. The degrees of separation are too few to be ignored. There have been numerous threads on DU about this. If I didn't have a final exam tomorrow morning (on SATURDAY!), I'd help you out some more.

As for what you remember hearing on Air America... well I guess you heard something, but I don't know what, other than you say it was debunked (by what expert?).

My suggestion is to NOT take my nor their word for it and do the research yourself.

Here's some words to google just for starters:

Thyssen
IG Farben
Harriman
Brown
Prescott Bush
Union Bank

42. I'll bet it was the guy who wrote Bush Dynasty
Kevin Phillips

he claims, and has gone into detailed research, he says, proving to himself that Prescott was only involved superficially

I don't know for sure, not having done much more than superficial checking on the web, but there ARE lots of connections

whether they're easily assembled into a true Nazi connection, it's hard to say, but you can be CERTAIN that what Harriman, etal, did much to fund the earliest days of the burgeoning Nazi cancer.

from what I've read (Thyssen?), the rich guys PICKED Hitler out very early, in the 20s, from the chaos that was Weimar Germany, recognized his "potential," then started backing him

anyone care to add to this?

44. Gosh, you really debunked THAT ONE!
WHO debunked it?

WHAT specifically did they debunk?

WHERE are the quotes?

Don't mean to sound hostile, but how could something that was a FACT be "debunked?" Prescott Bush; Brown Brothers and Harriman did what every Bush has done since: They did business with BOTH sides, so they'd get rich no matter who won.

http://democrats.com/display.cfm?id=319

There's a few links to get you started. Be sure to update us on how this "myth" was "debunked."

Anyway, there's more. There's the way the current Bush Administration uses Nazi tactics in almost every aspect of what they do;

1. They define a common enemy that is a "threat" to free Americans (Germans)

2. They talk of needing to reevalute civil rights laws to "protect" us

3. They preach Nationalism

4. They have a network of supporters who vilify their opponents as being a "threat to national security."

5. They invade other countries, based on flawed or false premises...

Need I go on?

Where I come from, we call a Nazi a Nazi. Bush is a Nazi. He is a fascist, and the freepers are fascists, and the Hannity's and O'Reilly's and Limbaugh's of this world are propogandists. I get called "extreme" all the time for mentioning this, but no one has done much of a job of pointing out WHY this is so ludicrous.

Say it with me: "Bush is a Nazi."

52. Well actually
Old man bush was charged with trading with Germany. Its all laid out in American Dynasty, by Kevin Philips. http://www.americandynasty.net/excerpts.htm
"This century of upward momentum brought a sequence of controversies, albeit ones that never gained critical mass—such as the exposure in 1942 of Prescott Bush’s corporate directorship links to wartime Germany, which harked back to over-ambitious 1920s investment banking, the Bush family’s longtime involvement with global armaments and the military-industrial complex"

Also the Book, The Bush Haters Handbook: Guide to the most appalling Presidency of the past 100 years by, Jack Huberman lays out plenty of facts on this. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1560255692/102-0133642-9496113?v=glance

I've read both, I would suggest you do the same.

Elf's post below might be of interest to you.

The weedboy and his band of repugs are so close to facist it is not even funny. You want to really be scared, read Mein Kempf and decide for yourself the parallels with this admin.

PS - welcome to DU. :hi:
Please keep in mind that nazi, brown shirts, hitler, etc are used frequently on DU to describe Bu$hco. Try not to take offense, and if you do find it offensive just try to ignore it. This forum is full of rants of a lot of very scared, angry and anxious patriots. To use terror as your platform to control this great nation is wrong and stirs a great deal of emotion.

Did you read the quote in my sig, it still scares the hell out of me:

"If this were a dictatorship, it'd be a heck of a lot easier, just so long as I'm the dictator." -George W. Bush (December 18, 2000)

Edit: bad typing

20. If this were a dictatorship...
Speaking of that quote.. I wonder why Moore cut out the "so long as I'm the dictator" part? It's kind of the punch line. Maybe I missed it during audience reation?

21. they really don't get it, do they?
they play the "liberals hate America" card because they think that goose-stepping to an unelected, unqualified piece of SHIT president and wrapping themselves in the flag is "patriotic". It would be funny if it wasn't so damn pathetic.

40. I think we're watching the end of the neoconservative movement.
Moore's film is just one brick in the wall, of course. But the neoconservatives really shot their wad on the invasion of Iraq. It's fascinating to watch them crumbling like this.

That's a cute kitty pic you have for an avatar! I had a friend once (though he's gone now, snif!) that was a cute, black kitty named Onyx. He's in Kitty Heaven now.

54. Actually these moron freepers think
they are going to win in November. I must of heard 20 things on talk radio that made me laugh today, they are getting so desperate. By the end of the day you could make the arguement against Moore just from hearing the same shit over and over. It's like someone sent out a fax:

How to defend against Michael Moore.

1. First tell them that the movie looks like a high school project. Lots of bad video.

2. Then, remind your audience that Moore is cashing in on the blood of Americans. (love this one even more now that I've seen the movie).

3. Criticize Michael Moore personally. Remind your audience that he is one of the rich fat cats he claims to be attacking. Let them know his daughter goes to private school.

4.Remind your audience that MM is fat. You can throw in probably smells bad too if it's a tough crowd.

5. Remind your audience how un-American it is not to agree with everything you say.

6. And finally remind your audience that it's all lies anyway, anything anyone says against the Bush administration is just partisan lies. Now take the blue pill, and you can wake up and believe whatever we tell you.

So of course I came home from work took the red pill and got in line to see the movie :)
