NIGHTLINE
Edited on Sat Jun-26-04 12:29 AM by givemebackmycountry
Kerry all but said Bush lied.
You MUST be seeing him talking from the NFL Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.
He's hitting it hard.
Very clear and concise.
Better than I've seen him yet.

1. I saw it, too
I totally agree. He was thoughtful, focused, intelligent, and said something I thought was interesting. Asked about being labeled as serious (pessimisitc), his reply and I am paraphrasing, "This is a serious time and we need serious leadership." Bingo. That's his platform in a nutshell.

2. Did he lift that line from "The American President" with Michael Douiglas?

In the press room, when Shephard just takes off the gloves against his RW opponent and delivers the little speech that actual Democratic politicians need to repeat to themselves to keep them on track??

It's not exactly the same, but it's darned near close..............

3. I posted this earlier but it but it bares repeating .
This is one of the best Nightlines I’ve seen in a while. One thing he did lay to rest is that he has NOT asked anyone to be his VP yet so don’t believe what you read in the paper.

I think Kerry is finally developing the way he presents himself. In the car with Ted Koppel he said he watched himself and the person he saw reminded him of the character Robert Redford played in the movie “The Candidate” where he is riding in the back seat of a limo and reciting political rhetoric to himself and in the big middle of it Redford’s character starts chanting blah...blah...blah... Kerry said something to the effect that there were two kinds of talking to the public. One is the blah-blah character and the other is talking to people. I realize this is a somewhat clumsy description of what was on Nightline but the main thing that I got out of it is that Kerry is finally developing his mannerism for a presidential candidate from the blah-blah candidate to a more personable. I think someone must have sat him down (probably Teresa this sounds like something your wife would make you do) and made him watch hours of himself on TV. If you can survive that it is a change for the better and a vast improvement on the somewhat mechanical Kerry.

4. I liked when Kerry said that Bush exaggerated the intelligence
Yeah, it was as close as he's gotten to calling Bush a liar. He looks good on Nightline. (I am watching it now on the West Coast). Very nice.

Ted Koppel tells him that he isn't "Mary Sunshine". LOL!

6. "senate speak"
with 20 years in the senate , senators tend to speak in certain ways.because there are so many small rules and procedures involved in the senate to debate, bring a bill etc. but most americans don't understand this. so if kerry tries to explain it using terms used in the senate many might not understand. so he learned to do less of the senate speak. but his understanding and caring for others was always there.

and yes, teresa helps him a lot. she doesn't hold back on what she really thinks of him and gives him honest criticism.

his scenes with those people who lost jobs and were struggling in ohio showed how much he has learned to communicate. he always understood the issues, but he learned to speak in ways where everyone could understand. less senate speak.

5. i just finished watching it, and those scenes in ohio
with the people who lost their jobs was how it was in iowa. not everyone had lost jobs, but kerry's listening and understanding their problems was about the same. this is why he won. this is what he does most of the times but which the big media does not report on. this is one of the best and fairest reporting on kerry i have seen. it wasn't kiss ass and fake. but it wasn't media whorish either. it was just the way it really is.
