The Most telling point about F9/11
Edited on Fri Jun-25-04 10:39 PM by louis c
is that they tried to ban it. Think about that. The whole purpose of the first amendment is "Political" speech.

The scariest thing is they nearly succeeded. Think of that for a moment. Put aside the the powerful message and think. More important than the convincing documentary is that they tried to stop Americans from seeing a "Political" film.

As much as we will talk about the art, the film clips, the production, the story line, and all the rest, the most important part of this film, to me, was we almost didn't get to see it. Next time, there might not be a next time. That makes this election all the more important and the times we live in all the more frightening.

1. They couldn't ban it outright, but they have intimidated theatres/owners
Lots of DUers are saying it's not playing anywhere near them, and several have said their theatres have no plans to show it.

2. That may change with the incredible crowds it's drawing.
These people are in business to make money, you know.

6. sure, now
we're alright. But this is 2004. They tried and are still trying to intimidate people from seeing a "Political" movie. Not graphic sex or gratuitous violence. Not something that would make a social change in our moires. Even these rights must be protected. But this is a "Political" statement. That's what we're all about. That's our freedom that no one, not me, you, Democrats, Republicans, freepers, DUers, anyone can argue with. My point is the mere discussion of weather or not this or any other "Political" film should be shown is the scariest thought I can imagine.

During the Viet-Nam War, and tens of thousands of Americans and Asians dying, I can't ever remember the banning or censorship, or boycotting of any "Political" film. Not even the attempt.

4. It takes a while for films...

...to make it to smaller communities -- even major releases. I think the film will spread to the outlying areas within a few weeks.

10. frustrating...
It's not showing in my hometown... a city of 35,000-ish on the Mississippi River... just across from Missouri... nor is it available in the midland-sized Missouri town 20 minutes away, down-river. Exasperating.

I called the theatres and they said they didn't know if/when they'd get it. They said one issue is that not enough copies are available for wide distribution. The manager quoted me something like 2500 copies were distributed for Shrek 2, but only ~ 800 for F-9/11.

It's a long way to November, and it's coming out on DVD in September. There'll need to be a lot of F-9/11 DVD house parties this Fall, eh?

8. Well it came to my town
so it has a larger release than Bowling. It's important to remember how incredible that a documentary is being this widely shown, even for a Michael Moore one. So even if this isn't showing everywhere, it is still showing in far more places than would be expected. And that's a good thing, because I'm pretty sure that every ticket sale represents a vote for Kerry.

3. They've also tried to call it a campaign piece
in which case, Rush Limbaugh, Hannity, O'Reilly et al would have to fall into the same category. These hacks exist to propagandize for the GOP.

5. I see your point, Louis.
Although they couldn't ban it this time, they will be able to next time UNLESS WE GET RID OF THE CHIMP. That's all that matters, boys and girls, or our country as we know it is gone.
