Howard Zinn : Voters “Do all in your power to assure that
Nader achieves ballot access”

Describes Nader Campaign as “vital element in keeping alive the public
debate about the Iraq War”

Washington, DC: Independent Presidential candidate Ralph Nader today
released a statement of Howard Zinn urging voters to support his efforts
to get on the ballot. Zinn made the statement because he sees a need
for debate on the war and occupation of Iraq.

“Ralph Nader's campaign is a vital element in keeping alive the public
debate about the Iraq War. Senator Kerry's reluctance to engage in this
debate, and his support for the broad outlines of President Bush's
disastrous war policies threatens to deprive the American people of the
deep, thoughtful, and vigorous debate that should be the centerpiece of
the presidential campaign.”

“I urge voters of all states - regardless of whichever candidate you may
decide to vote for on election day - to attend Nader conventions, sign
petitions, and do all in your power to assure that Nader achieves ballot
access.”

Nader expressed appreciation for the support of Howard Zinn, the
celebrated author of “A People's History of the United States.” Nader
is the only candidate urging a responsible withdrawal that would get the
United States out of Iraq within the next six months. Nader urges US
troops to be replaced with troops from neutral nations with such
experience and from Islamic countries, internationally supervised
elections and continued US humanitarian aid to Iraq.

“Both President Bush and Senator Kerry support staying the course and
continued military and corporate occupation of Iraq. This policy does
little to encourage mainstream Iraqis to distance themselves from the
insurgency. Mainstream Iraqis want their country back without a puppet
government under military occupation. If the public wants a debate on
the lasting occupation, the peace movement needs to support the only
candidate calling for withdrawal of US military and corporate
interests,” said Nader. Polls show growing support for US troops
withdrawing for Iraq.
