Day 2 - P2P Streaming of Thom Hartmann Show - keep kicked please!
With the loss of the Radiopower live stream, I, as the Webmaster of http://www.WhiteRoseSociety.org am trying to host an alternative means of streaming for the Thom Hartmann Show and Radio Inside Scoop with Mark Levine.

This will be using the PeerCast P2P streaming system.

To use PeerCast, you will need to go to http://www.peercast.org and download and install a client program for your machine. All major operating systems are supported.

When the stream goes "live" a directory entry *should* appear in the listings at http://yp.peercast.org (Genre "Talk") that will allow you to connect to the stream with your client program. (It isn't there now because the source stream isn't running.)

You will need to run PeerCast before you click on the "Listen" button in the directory.

Please report your success or failure to connect to this stream in this thread.

This worked pretty well yesterday, and today we have lowered the stream rate to better accommodate modem users.

Thanks!

Use this once you have PeerCast installed and running.

3. Trouble with peercast
I installed it yesterday and actually listened to some music channels to see what it was about. They invariable would drop off line after a minute or two.

I've tried several things this morning to get this cast. I get various error messages such as can't find stream, etc.

Is peercast unreliable - or do I have setup problems?

8. Peercast is a P2P
So, if the peer you connect to is having bandwidth problems, those problems will pass on to you. If you have issues like this when the Hartmann stream is running, disconnect and then reconnect, and you will probably get a different peer. I am feeding five relay streams from my 768kbps umstream, so there should be good access to a fast stream for the first few "generations" of peering.

7. Well, people were able to connect...
There was some rebuffering reported, but there were problems with the source stream, and that explains that issue.

Thom has lowered the bit rate by 25% today which should make things a bit smoother.

12. It is dead for today.
Sorry folks!

We'll go for it again tomorrow.

And I'll make sure that there is a mechanism for restarting it remotely.
