Wake-up, Dem Leadership!
From Mahablog:

"OK so far. Here's the part I found alarming:
Of course, funding a campaign from cyberspace is not new, nor is it any guarantee of success. John McCain and Bill Bradley raised $2.5 million and $1.6 million from their respective sites in 2000. And while candidates like Kerry and Joe Lieberman are emulating Dean's online play, others dismiss it as elitist. "I don't think average Joes are on the Internet using their credit cards to give you $25," scoffs Gephardt campaign official Steve Elmendorf.

Hello? Are we all in the same century? What's so strange about lots of hard-working, non-affluent people giving $25 donations online?

The Dems are supposed to be the party of the little guy. Yet they rely more on big-money donors than the Republicans do"

Read the whole piece, especially if you're a 'little guy' (or gal)!

1. I'm kind of tired of these threads
Jesus, the DNC raised MORE money on the internet than Dean did last quarter.

2. If you read the piece...
You'd see that 92% of $1,000,000 contributions went to Dems! The point is that an attitude like this: "I don't think average Joes are on the Internet using their credit cards to give you $25," scoffs Gephardt campaign official Steve Elmendorf." is not only elitist, but dangerous!
To me it is just one more illustration of how out of touch Dem leadership is.

3. Here's another
"Nobody has ever doubted the intensity of Dean's support," says Jim Jordan, campaign manager for Kerry. "The question is, Can he broaden it?"

Excuuuuuse me? How braod is Kerry's support -- or any other candidate's for that matter? Dean received contributions from over 50,000 people last quarter. How many contributors did the other candidates have? Let's talk broad.

4. Exactly.
I'm not going to get candidate-specific here, but it seems to me that if you ignore the 'little people' or grass-roots movements, you're going to miss perhaps 10-15% of potential voters. Can the Dems afford to miss even 1% in '04?
What ever happened to the Big Tent?

7. Clue phone for Steve Elmendorf
""I don't think average Joes are on the Internet using their credit cards to give you $25," scoffs Gephardt campaign official Steve Elmendorf."

I think I'm an average Joe and that's EXACTLY what I did. (Although I gave $50 and not $25 and did it twice)
