3. Wait. He met with Edwards for a fake-out?
Just to throw people off-track?

Hmmmmm . . . I would think his schedule is fuller than that.

4. Who knows. The goal is to keep the media speculating though.

6. Maybe so. Didn't Kerry say he might make his pick
on July 4th weekend? That's coming up fast.

9. You should always meet with someone face to face...
...when you tell them they are not going to be your VP. Trust me, if it were Edwards, this would not have even appeared in the news at all. Kerry wants a surprise pick, and is fed up with the 'push' toward Edwards.

And I don't know if it is Clark or not (and don't care as long as the VP has a strong foreign policy background), but he was in DC today, too, yet you don't see that story coming from the AP...

10. Well, that's one way to look at it.
Of course, if you're going to offer the job of VP to someone, I'd say you'd want to tell them face-to-face too. To make sure they accept and keep it quiet.

Then the phone calls to all the ones he didn't choose. I don't think he's going to meet with all the ones he didn't choose, face to face.

11. Actually, you tell the unchosen first, and meet with your selection..
...last. That way your selection cannot be leaked before the others in contest know it's not them.

Those who have been vetted will be met with face-to-face, no matter what. Gore didn't even call Kerry in 2000 to tell him about Lieberman--he found out from the media.

Gore didn't tell Lieberman he was endorsing Dean--he found out from the media.

Kerry was pissed off on both accounts, so you can expect he would do it exactly the way he would like to have been treated. He will be a gentleman and do it face to face.

12. So wonder if all the "unchosens" have been
told via phone and this was a face-to-face meeting with the selection?

Hard to tell what's going on.

15. I doubt it....
...the meeting for the 'chosen one' would take a helluva lot longer than a few minutes.

13. It's natural to discuss things between possible future president and vp
Who really doubts that, if Kerry wins, Edwards will become VP?

14. It was a brief meeting according to reports.
I am TOTALLY reaching here, but John Kerry had the decency to tell John Edwards face-to-face that he was NOT the pick, but that he appreciates all of the hard work he has done for the campaign.

Kerry's pick will be General Wesley Clark.

* is slipping on fronts, and most notably his "strength" ie the war on terra, has slipped dramatically. The ongoing troubles in Iraq, the lack of an exit strategy, the pissing contest between Rummy and everyone else in the Pentagon, the authorization of torture BY Rummy etc etc etc.

Quite simply the best way to combat that is to pick a four-star general, who has a spotless record of selfless service, and is smarter then *'s entire cabinet....

Kerry/Clark 04
