The Russians told Bush about Iraq
Edited on Sat Jun-19-04 12:06 AM by rpannier
I live in Korea and have since '88(I preface this for a reason). On CNN-Asia, Korean News and in Asian newspapers, back in '03 the reason the Russians gave for opposing the war in Iraq was their intelligence sources said that Iraq was not a threat to the United States. Now, Putin is claiming they sent information to the US that Iraq was going to carry out terrorist activities against the US.
I don't know about you, but I consider possible terrorist activities a threat.
So, this begs the question, "Was Putin lying then, or now?"
I report. You decide.

1. Putin met with Bush recently in Washington...
...he was asked by Bush to lie so Bush's ratings could go up. In exchange, Putin got to spend the night with Pickles. What can I tell you, Russia is a capitalist country now.

3. He was lying then and he is lying now.
Putin is playing the game. I bet there was an huge multi billion dollar give-away for Russia last week at the G8 if Putin said the right lies for the Chimp of death.

6. This whole thing sounds fishy
First of all, Russian was against us invading Iraq. Now that this was revealed, the State Department claims they knew nothing about the Russian warnings. Something funny is going on.

8. Well...
I think in all fairness the real reason Putin opposed the invasion was because Russia had a lot of oil contracts with Iraq and was owed billions. A U.S. invasion might jeopardize all that.

That being the case, Putin and his KGB might be reluctant to tell the U.S. about Iraqi terror plans because it would provide numbnuts with justification to invade (unless, of course, an attack was imminent).

I don't know where that leads. Putin may shed more light on it or change his mind in days to come as the Russians often do. I doubt we'll hear the details from his KGB so who knows?

I am of the school that believes if Bushco had had an ounce of real intelligence to justify an invasion they would have broadcast it 24/7 to the far corners of the galaxy.

9. I think he's lying now.
Also, isn't he ex-KGB, which makes him somewhat unreliable in the truth department all around? I think a third grader, with adequate information, would have figured out that Iraq wasn't an international threat, so I will leave it there.
