Blacks Increasingly Go Online for News, Services

More blacks are using the Internet, and more of them also go online to get their news, said a recent report by The Pew Research Center for the People & the Press.

In 2000, there was a 17-point gap between whites <55 percent of online users> and blacks <38 percent of users>. In 2004, reported the Pew Center, the gap narrowed to 5 points, or 66 percent of whites as online consumers vs. 61 percent of black Internet users.

“The biggest factor is increasing access by the African-American community and a really large narrowing of the gap,” Michael Dimock told BlackAmericaWeb.com. He is research director with the Pew Center.
