Do you think public sentiment about Iraq could radically shift by 2004?
Every day it seems as if there are headlines concerning troops being killed in Iraq, with no forseeable end in sight.

If this gets played up by the media, I would tend to think public sentiment would slowly shift a la Vietnam.

If this should happen I think Dean could benefit a lot with regard to his candidacy. He was an outspoken critic of the war the whole time.

How do you see events in Iraq playing out and influencing the election?

1. No exit strategy, daily deaths of american kids
It will very soon be bothersome to the flag wavers of the not too recent past. I saw an SUV yesterday with an American flag hooked to the side window. It was in tatters from being wind whipped for so long. I think it was symbolic of the fake patriotism drummed up by fake patriots. Their hopes and dreams of conservative nirvana is in tatters because their hero lied, the economy sucks and they will soon have to look in the mirror and admit they were wrong.

2. It's already begun...
Every day that another US troop meets his/her end in Iraq, more people realize that this administration had NO plan how to handle the post-war situation...

3. Funny how
Funny how FR is oddly devoid of triumphant Iraq articles. Iran articles are popping up more and more.

4. Think of it this way
What could possibly happen between now and then that would be good?

Here's something no one is saying yet who wasn't already saying it before the war - we are involved in not one but TWO protracted guerilla wars in countries whose governments we have overthrown and whose land we are currently occupying against the will of the people who live there.

No one has ever won such a war. It is impossible. It cannot happen. We have no exit strategy because there is no exit strategy.

There is a saying in the middle east - Man's good brings harvests, and his bad brings harvests, and none can stand between a man and his harvest.

If I told * that, I wonder if he'd say "Harvests? Bring 'em on."

6. Yes, absolutely
Bodies continuing to come home. $4 billion a month.

There aren't any more victory photo-ops in this.

American taxpayers are going to very, very, tired of
this by next year.

7. If the economy stays in the dumps, yes.
If the economy comes into it's own again then I think people will be willing to overlook Iraq.

Sorry, but as long as people have theirs then I think the prevailing attitude of the majority is "the hell with the outside world".
