...Holy jumpin' Jesus, that's INCREDIBLE! I mean, who the fuck does Drudge think he's fooling with this yellow journalism? Obvious answer: anyone stupid enough to take this kind of slander at face value.

Which is exactly why it troubles me no end...

Sleeping? It's called closing your eyes to reflect during a memorial service.

Laughing? Most people would LIKE the idea of people being able to laugh together after their memorial service!

Matt Drudge is a puny human being with a small bitter bitter heart.

19. Embarrasment for Matt Drudge
He has the protestors as a headline (actually it was pastor phelps and his family)

Then the "gotcha' shot" of John Kerry laughing (because he giggled through the whole ceremony right?) WAS THIS REMOVED?

Now he is running the "sleeping" pic that's actually prayer....

WHAT THE FUCK?!?!?!?

25. For heaven's sake! The man was ill for decades!
It wasn't like the man was struck down in the prime of his life in an accident or sudden illness. Sheesh. One of the best times I ever spent with my ex-husband's family, was the weekend of his grandmother's funeral. Sounds wierd.. but she was ill for so long.. and while the service was sad.. it was also filled with laughs. The family got together and had a great time seeing each other... Sometimes, especially if someone has had a long, full life.. and if they are passing away from a terrible illness, the passing is a relief. Nancy, of course, is broken by this.. they were together for so long.. but services are often a time for family and friends to remember, reminisce and share a laugh sometimes..

Drudge is a moran.

unexpected and a young person - laughter happens. My friends brother died in his 30 very unexpectedly and we were cracking jokes about things he had done in his life at the wake and it wasn't out of disrespect - it was more a way to cope with the situation....

1988 Flashback: Kerry calls Reagan Presidency "Moral Darkness" in convention speech
Fri Jun 11 2004 12:32:42 ET

*** The Boston Globe Archives | July 21, 1988 | Walter V. Robinson ***

ATLANTA -- Michael Stanley Dukakis, a self-described "very, very long- shot" candidate just 16 months ago, last night became the Democratic nominee for president and his party's best hope to win the White House since 1976. Earlier, Sen. John F. Kerry took to the convention hall podium, telling the delegates that the "moral darkness" of President Reagan's presidency will soon end.

"A Republican president once reminded us, 'There is absolutely nothing to be said for a government of powerful men with the ideals of pawnbrokers,' " Kerry said.

"That president's name was Theodore Roosevelt. And today Theodore Roosevelt would be ashamed to be a Republican."

Said Kerry: "It is time we once again had a government of laws and not of lawbreakers."

53. Too true
Or any of the many accounts of his deteriorating condition while still serving as POTUS.

http://www.dailyhowler.com/dh061004.shtml

LOU’S CANON: What was Reagan actually like? For those of you who find yourselves wondering, let us stand with Eric Alterman. On Monday, Alterman recommended Lou Cannon’s “fair-minded <1991> biography, President Reagan: The Role of a Lifetime, a book that can be admired by honest fans of Reagan as well as honest opponents.” (And yes, both groups do exist.) In the past few days, we’ve been rereading parts of Cannon’s book, and we must say this: Every time we revisit this text, we’re more impressed by its author’s rare abilities. Few writers can describe a pol’s failures so frankly, then turn around and dispassionately describe episodes where he performed more ably. We’ll also recommend Cannon’s 2003 book, Governor Reagan, which takes us up to Reagan’s inauguration as president. Did Cannon ever vote for Reagan? Read these endlessly instructive texts. See if you can tell.

(snip)

CANNON (page 631): t was obvious to Regan and Wallison that the president was still shaky in his recollections. Wallison drew up what Abshire called an “aide-memoire” to help the president recall what he had told them. At the top Wallison wrote, “On the issue of the TOW shipment in August, in discussing this matter with me and David Abshire, you said you were surprised to learn that the Israelis had shipped the arms. If that is your recollection, and the question comes up at the Tower Board meeting, you might want to say that you were surprised.”

The question, of course, came up...After a preliminary question about presidents and their NSC staffs, Tower asked Reagan about the discrepancy between his statement and Regan’s on the question of whether he had given prior approval to the Israeli arms shipment. Reagan rose from his chair, walked around the desk and said to Wallison, “Peter, where is that piece of paper you had that you gave me this morning?” Then he picked up the paper and began to read, “If the question comes up at the Tower Board meeting, you might want to say that you were surprised.”

Tower’s jaw went slack. It was, as Abshire put it, “a low moment.” Tower suspected that Reagan was being manipulated by his counsel, and the Tower Board’s chief of staff, Rhett Dawson, asked Wallison for a “copy of the script” when the board departed. But Wallison was even more amazed than the Tower Board by Reagan’s response. “I was horrified, just horrified,” Wallison recalled later.
