Richard Roeper says Coulter can't stand up to "mild scrutiny"
He uses arguments from Salon and Conason to demonstrate how silly she is.

Coulter doesn't stand up even to mild scrutiny

July 10, 2003

BY RICHARD ROEPER SUN-TIMES COLUMNIST

-snip-
For those looking for ammo against Coulter, Spinsanity.org has given Treason a nice solid trashing, and Joe Conason at Salon.com has also weighed in with a scathing analysis that notes, " grasp of facts is even worse than her judgment."

Here's one choice example: Coulter: "n March 1946, Truman ostentatiously rebuffed Winston Churchill after his famous Iron Curtain speech in Fulton, Missouri. . . . instructed Secretary of State Dean Acheson not to attend a reception for Churchill a week later in New York."

Conason points out a few minor errors. First, Acheson wasn't appointed secretary of state until 1949. Second, it was the secretary of state at the time, James Byrnes, who actually urged Acheson not to attend the New York event. (Conason notes that Acheson had a "cordial" lunch with Churchill shortly thereafter.)

Furthermore, Truman was the one who invited Churchill to his home state of Missouri--and he read Churchill's speech in advance, telling him the warning about communism would "do nothing but good."

Of course, Coulter's army will gobble up every word of her book, and if you dare disagree with anything she says, they'll respond by sending you hate e-mails, unsigned of course.

Meanwhile, in the world of the rational, we wonder if this woman will ever love anything as much as she hates liberals.

2. ann the nut job
How anybody can give the least amount of credence to what this whacko has to say is totally beyond me. I once hoped that letting someone like thi spew all of her venom would make people wake up & realize what a horse's patoot she is. I hate to say this, but when all you see for debate on the " Guddam cumminus librul medja" is which 10 right wingers for the occasional token moderate, people are given little chance to think. Unfortunately, we live in a society where many feel that the exchange of liberty for security is a fair thing! After all, What has that "daid yankee librul" Benjamin Franklin done for us lately? Kerry/Landrieu '04!

3. No, she couldn't
Ann can never answer a straight and direct question. She always dodges or uses unrelated qualifiers for her arguments.

Also blames the left for insults against the right, then calls liberals idiots and Katie Couric the "affable Eva Braun" in the next breath.

11. Eva Braun was a real woman
There are some questions regarding Coulter's actual gender due to her having a fairly noticeable Adam's apple.

when you read her stuff, if you have to, laugh. when someone brings her up, react like you would to a bad comedienne. she's an entertainer, refuse to take her seriously.

8. Is this the same Roeper that reviews movies
with Roger Ebert? Ebert has been writing a few poltical opinions here and there recently as well.

10. Roeper Was Writing Columns Like This, B4 the Movie Thing
Yes, it's the same guy. But, he was a Chicago columnist for a long time before he joined up with Roger. They work for the same paper, had known each other for quite a while, and don't always share the exact same opinions.

So, the movie thing was a good fit. But, Richard's been doing political commentary on a local and national level for a pretty long time.

13. A bigot is a bigot, even tarted up in make-up and mini-skirt.
And so is a liar, by the way.

We need to contact any station, newspaper, or magazine that treats A.C. as anything other than a bigot, one-party state promoter, liar, and ignoramus and give them what for.

For a while there, Bo Gritz was countenanced by major news organizations as some kind of expert witness on things such as stand-offs, etc. They always identified him as an ex-Green Beret. What they didn't tell us was that he was connected to the Christian Identity movement, if I remember correctly. His unsavory beliefs were pretty much obscured by the Green Beret identifier.

We need to call the media outlets to account regarding Coulter. She would be a joke at the office water cooler, an embarrassment at a family dinner, but the media is allowing her to be TAKEN SERIOUSLY, and the right-wing gravy train (with Charles Murray and Laura Ingraham and others feeding off it) is not being scrutinized enough. Let's turn the spotlight on and watch how fast A.C. vanishes.

14. Coulter interview in Time Magazine:
http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1101030714-463080,00.html

"Time:Treason came out shortly after Hillary Clinton's book. Whose is going to sell better?

Coulter:I was not happy to find out that her book — her three ghostwriters' book — was coming out a few weeks before mine. But I'm completely confident that among real readers, in any fair fight, I could beat her. And also that more people will actually read my book."

HAHAHAHA. Coulter thinks she can beat Hillary in readership! She is delusional.
