Aging boomers + Stem Cell Issue + Reagan = Issue?
Will Reagan's death finally get people to see that Bush's opposition to stem cell research is folly and that he lied when he said there were sufficient existing stem cell lines for research on things like Alzheimer's? The boomers will be entering Alzheimer territory soon. How do they like it that Bush turned an issue of important research into a political symbol for his anti-abortion stance? And how do they like it that he justified his decision knowingly or unknowingly (typical of Bush) with a falsehood that there were about 70 viable stem cell lines?

http://www.usatoday.com/news/opinion/editorials/2004-05-17-bush-edit_x.htm

It seems to me that Bush has let his politics get in the way of a science that is important to aging Americans. And he did it based on falsehood. And he never doubts his own decisions or changes his mind. And he can't change his mind anyway without hurting himself politically.

If boomers want stem cell research (which never should have been glued to the abortion debate in the first place), Bush must go. How many other Reagan-like Alzheimer's cases do there have to be in our own families before we realize Bush played dirty politics with science.

1. I don't know what to say

I suspect nothing will be mentioned about it. Reagan ignored the AIDS epidemic in this country--and even voiced that it was sinful and that is why they suffer.

Bush will get a pass on most of the horrors he has committed. I know it sounds defeatist, but take a look at how Reagan is being sainted, ad nauseum, and look at how many eviol things he did.

It has been the habit of the Christian church for thousands of years to hold back all science that would give such great benefit to mankind. A million probably have died because of the Catholic churches prohibitions on science and sometimes it lasted for a hundred years. It is NOT new in the annals of the church that they do everything in their power to hinder humanity rather than help. Pity that believers such as George and Laura, are hell bent to continue that practice of denying chronically ill people a chance to live due to scientific research--there is nothing about an embryo that is sacred or holy--nothing. Further, an embryo does not belong to Bush, or Laura or the Pope. It belongs to the person who is allowing that embryo to use her body. It is women who need to be punished for their sexuality, not men, eh?

2. This is an extremely interesting point
Americans in their 50's and 60's have already begun to watch their own parents die of debilitating and dignity stealing diseases. I think medical research and the hope that stem cell research offers is an important issue for these voters as they are now looking at their own mortality.

3. I am a baby boomer, baby. IMPORTANT TO ME. But I have other
considerations like leaving a semi-livable planet for my kids after I die. This issue just reinforces my desire to get the repugs sent scurrying out of the government.
