1. I already saw him (est). He was great. Gave chimpy some nice

2. Just saw it
Said that the carrier was delayed a day just for the photo-op. Said that if he were a soldier, he would be embarrassed that GWB arrived wearing a flight suit to take advantage of what they have done.

It was a "publicity stunt".

Yessssss!

3. Sounds like he'll be in the pres. race by Labor Day
I don't want ANYONE connected to the military, no matter how benign,
as the next president. I'm sure Clark is a great guy, but I do not trust the military and for all I know Clark may be their boy.

The Pentagon's influence in this country is way over the top and out of control. The risks are too great right now to put someone with military connections in a position of leadership, imo.

5. More danger from Chickenhawks
Edited on Thu Aug-14-03 07:52 AM by Donna Zen
Many people would agree with your point about the military staying out of politics. I too have reservations concerning the influence of the Pentagon. Nevertheless, I also try not to deal in sweeping, absolute assumptions. IOW, I believe not all generals are bloodthirsty neo-cons.

First, this is not a military coup; General Clark is retired not active duty. Faced with an endless war, many Americans might find his knowledge a valued source of information, if we are find a peaceful solution to this conflict. Second, prior military service should not be a damning fact that bars people from serving in the public sector. Third, the other day I read (no link) that 91% of our former presidents have had some military experience. I know that many people on this board have that experience and yet are progessives who opposed the Iraq War. Finally, I doubt this country has ever endured a more bloodthirsty cabal than Cheney, Wolfowitz, and Perle; all bastards who never wore a uniform, never saw people blow apart on a battlefield, and never shed their own blood in service to this country.

Generals may understand war, but it takes a flock of Chickenhawks to preach slaughter.

6. Okay. You're entitled to your opinion. Just know that many others
don't share it. No candidate expects to get 100% support. No candidate expects that they will appeal to everyone.

8. That's very bigoted
If you oppose his views then that's fine, but it is nothing more than bigotry to oppose a candidate simply because he has a military background. Why not give him a fair hearing first before deciding to not support him?

4. Oh you mean. . .
When he said Bush did not need the flight suit when he landed on the aircraft carrier, it was a publicity stunt and he would have been embarrassed if he served on that aircraft carrier!

7. I want him in the race

He won't get my support unless nominated, but I want him in the race so he can speak at the convention.
