Bloggers Attack Reagan

By Shawn Macomber
FrontPageMagazine.com | June 8, 2004

Dozens of email alerts fill my inbox every day, mostly with old news and requests for money that are quickly dumped in my virtual trashcan. On Sunday morning I received more than 30 responses to the death of President Reagan. One in particular stuck out, blinking at me like a bright red flag. It was a notice from the raconteurs over at CrushKerry.com: "Many liberals happy Reagan is gone," it read. I thought it had to be an exaggeration, but after a couple hours of clicking around it became clear the truth was even worse than CrushKerry made it out to be.

"I'm sipping some excellent German white wine now," one poster over at the Democratic Underground blog wrote. "To Ronald Reagan, may you rot in hell you sorry evil creep! Clink glasses." A fellow blogger agreed, writing, "R.I.P--In Hell," with a third adding, "On a Slowly Turning Spit."

"I thought Reagan died in 1982, and the GOP inserted electrodes into his corpse to make it twitch for the cameras while his cabinet sold missiles to Iran and illegally funded terrorists in Central America," another, one of hundreds, snickered.

"I thought, as liberals, we were supposed to be benevolent, kind people?" one poster lamented, attempting to appeal to the bloggers' better instincts. "Yes, Reagan was a terrible President, who's cannonized by the right-wing. But he was a human being, and to be honest, I doubt he would wish death upon ANY of us Americans. Can you imagine how you would feel if the right-wing would say some of this about Paul Wellstone?"

-----------------------------------------------------------

Again, it's pretty sad how these neocon nuts are exploiting Reagan's death as an opportunity to bash liberal sites. Have they no shame?

2. What's funny as hell...
...is that he includes this post:

Um, gee, did the sarcasm fly right the hell over his head?

4. Like the "Wellstone is Dead. Get Over It." bumper stickers?
How would they feel about one that said "Reagan is Dead. Get Over It."

5. Apaprently Macomber never did any research for this article
Or he would have turned up worse about Wellstone from the Freepers, yet he chose not to bother... he already had his angle and nothing, not even the truth, was going to prevent him from ensuring it was not a fair assessment.

7. Horowitz is an automaton.
I believe he was programmed to carry out this course of action when he was a "sympathizer" of communism. If I were a conservative, I wouldn't trust this guy at all. He's really only looking for a niche for himself and is an utter opportunist. His politics are defined by his emotional responses. Maybe he was tortured one too many times at some point...

10. riiiight...
<sarcasm>

We shat all over Wellstone, we continue to wish the Clintons (including
Chelsea, right John Derbyshire?) dead, gleefully recall the torture and
death in Iraq of innocent civilians, but we're shocked, SHOCKED that
these libbbruls would openly mock our dead Saint Reagan!"

</sarcasm>

But hey, don't address a SINGLE CRITICISM of Reagan's Legacy that
ALSO appears on these sites. Afterall, if you can cherry pick comments
at Wellstone's funeral to make it seem it was a creepy libbrul leftist
commie pinko socialist nazi fascist, er, eeevil rally, why not cherry
pick the insults, even the sarcastic ones? Beats actually DEFENDING
the bastard's legacy!

I for one don't care he's dead. He died of a terrible disease I wouldn't
wish upon anyone, including him (despite his and his party's steadfast
anti-science ideology which slows CURES for such maladies). BUT, the
f*cker lived a charmed life for *93* years! That the last 10-15 weren't
pleasant is a shame, but tell that to the thousands who ALSO suffer
from Alzheimers that DON'T have 24/7/365 bed care in luxury! Or
have ANY healthcare thanks to his policies! Or who die long BEFORE
age 93 or preventable illnesses.

It's not enough. I can't just say "too bad. I disagreed with him, but
he WAS the President and some liked him. Rest in peace, Ron. Hope
you had a good life". Nooooooo, in today's black and white world,
we have to WORSHIP THIS GOD MAN OR WE'RE UNAMERICAN!

Baloney. Once again the GOP gets to do what THEY want (whine
and cry and yell and rant about Wellstone), then hypocritically
turn around and demand we love and respect their flawed icon.

11. You can not win so you might as well hate The Gipper
Limbaugh is saying that when Liberals compliment Reagan it is only to compare and thus attack the Chimp.

So tell me how Liberals win either way if the Right thinks like this...

13. I'm sure they knew it would happen. They were all prepared when he died.
Just as you and I both know that the freeps would piss on Clinton's grave if they could and we all can prepare ourselves to be righteously outraged.

Who gives a damn about what abunch of lying pathetic wing nuts have to say about us to each other. They already hate us. A little fake moral indignation on their part is just a way to pile on.

Screw them.
