Michael Weiner (aka Savage) sent friendly notes to Allen Ginsberg,

famous Beat poet, back in 1970, and he did not call Ginsberg a sodomite. Could he have just not realized what Ginsberg's sexual orientation was? Doubtful, I'd say, as Ginsberg was definitely not in the closet. I know that I
(a straight girl of 15 at the time) knew Ginsberg's poetry and his orientation as far back as 1964.

The letters are in the collection of Ginsberg's papers at Stanford University, according to this source, Radar Magazine. You can read two of the letters Weiner/ Savage wrote to Ginsberg at:

Radar also published some comments, including:

"Now, the dope-smoking, boy-loving grand dame of '60s degeneracy didn't seem like the kind of riffraff a nationally renowned homophobic zealot would have on his buddy list. But we shouldn't have been so surprised. In Savage's thinly veiled confessional novel Vital Signs, the protagonist admits he is allured by "masculine beauty," saying, "I choose to override my desires for men when they swell in me, waiting out the passions like a storm, below decks."

This should interest certain DUers being sued by Mr. Weiner/Savage, and also BartCop. (Hmm, I haven't read BartCop in a few days, maybe he already knows this story?)
