How to fight the good fight?
I've learned a lot about myself here at DU over the past year. I was thrilled to find this place, a community of liberals like myself, running the entire spectrum. How invigorating!

But it seems we get a bit...bogged down in HOW exactly to go about achieving our goals. I think that happens because we THINK more than conservatives, we aren't just knee-jerk reactionaries. And that's good.

But sometimes the examined life is hell. You've just got to get it STRAIGHT with yourself just what you believe, and then, having done that, stand your ground and FIGHT. Don't let anyone make you mealy-mouthed. Re-examine your positions as necessary, but second-guessing is a whole different animal, isn't it?

On the flip side, don't let the fight destroy your dignity and humanity. I honestly believe liberal positions are the RIGHT ones. They are the MORALLY correct and the truly compassionate ones. When you have that on your side, you don't need to call people names (though I know from experience how incredibly satisfying that is, believe me...and I do it plenty at my TV screen). You can argue to the very end with those who are lacking in compassion and those possessing faux-morality all day. And you will win.

Truth and TRUE compassion will always win out over lies and hatred. Always.
