A toast to Nancy for the dedication she showed to Ron
Edited on Sun Jun-06-04 06:32 PM by GoPsUx
Now i am no Reagan fan,
I do like Ron Reagan JR.
But just imagine the person you loves mind being torn apart before your eyes. All remaining is a shell of your life mate...
like i said I am no fan of the Reagans but Nancy we should all be so lucky as to have someone who cares for us like she did Ron.

2. I think not.
The freepers can swoon all over the Reagans to their hearts' content. I won't be toasting Nancy for anything anytime soon.

3. Cheers
She should buy $200,000 worth of sterling silver flatware and a couple dozen Gucci handbags in his memory.

4. Nancy's a saint ...
especially when compared to that vicious Barbara Bush. I'm not aware that Nancy ever had a mean streak. I think the press was overly hard on her about the astrologer and the fancy china, etc.

14. The story goes that she was rather... difficult
and the shuffling that moved Don Regan from Chief of Staff to Dept of Treasury... had to do with Nancy not thinking that Regan was doing a good enough job for Ron. There were reasons to view her in less than a glowing light as first lady.

That said, I think that she deserves a modicum of respect as do all families who caringly tend to loved ones with Alzhiemers - it humanizes us. She no longer seems to worry about his legacy (heck she spoke against the RNC push to redesign the dime with his image on it, and she has been critical of the bush administration - particularly their stand on stem cell research - but overall impression that she does not appreciate the constant attempts to glorify junior by tying him to Ronald... of course that could date back to WH dinners, where apparently he was rather unruly and obnoxious... she got some first hand looks at the trollish son who now aspires to be her husbands "legacy") - and doesn't seem to be into the whole opportunitistic self-promotion thing. I can give credit to today's Nancy and honor her - and all others who have lived through the ravages of Alzheimers as a survivor, but still remain clear eyed and critical of her as she was as first lady.

25. Nancy-Reagan's Legacy. I Am CERTAIN She Pulled The Tubes Out Just Before
D-Day so that Reagan's speech would be used this weekend and his memory could coalesce around the D-Day Memorial Celebration.

Absolutely certain.

Note: The family had time to gather round and the newsroom was alerted ahead of time.

She planned the hour of Reagan's death. She is heavily into Astrology.

Just my opinion.

28. interesting twist
makes me sorta chuckle in the sense that Rush is always claiming that the Clintons are doing things to overshadow Kerry (or earlier all dems in the primary) because they want the dems to lose in order for Hillary to run in 2008.

Your scenario would do a little switch on that... to put Reagan in the spotlight for DDay as his final "image"... completely upstages little georgie in Europe. Recalls Reagan's (now mythicized) regal appearance as the great president at the ceremonies... compared to little george oscilating between being petulant and begging for support for Iraq.

For years Nancy was obsessed (or so it seemed) with managing and protecting Ronald's image - your scenario would fit the bill... along with tarnishing bushjr, for whom she reportedly has few warm feelings. If this were true - a third little end game could grow... the question of Euthanasia and John Ashcroft...

So your scenario may not be real... but it is rather entertaining to think about.

21. But she was the blow job queen of Hollywood...
according to "The Peter Lawford Story"

Sinatra called her "a broad with fat ankles" Maybe Frank was turned on by those wizened no longer fat 70 year old ankles.

died of cancer a few years ago. My grandma was at his side the entire time.

I'll give a toast to my grandma instead.

I will however give Nancy credit for supporting stem cell research.

18. Nancy is no goddamn saint; you know who is???
It's the men and women who have to deal with this condition who don't have the money and connections these people have. This woman has NO NO NO idea what a horror story that is since our government and it's lack of health care for it's citizens makes ordinary people go through this hell. Do you know what that means?? That means that the 'ordinary" spouse not only deals with the hell; but in the end the surviving spouse has neither home, nor savings, nor investments, nor anything left. They go from middle class Americans to abject poverty. Nancy doesn't know the one half of the hell. And it's bumfucks like Ronnie who have kept average Americans from the care and dignity they deserve. Buy a real expensive dress for that funeral Nancy--you know exactly the ambitious bitch you are and always will be.

20. the thing I remember most about Nancy was her pettiness
and competition with Raisa Gorbachov. LOL

Also her apology to Ron, when she had surgery for breast cancer. She said to him that she was "sorry"--that was what was reported.

Also, her bossy ways in the White HOuse were often referred to.

It would be easier for her to stay the course with Ron's illness if one has the money she has had to help her stay the course.

She could afford to hire help round the clock to care for the Ron who was stricken with Alzheimers. I doubt whether she did this by herself for ten years. NO way.

He would have been put into a home, like the rest of us paeons would be should our poor family have been shackled with it.

27. SHE SHOULD TRY IT WITH NO MONEY. SURE IT WAS HARD
TO SEE HIM SICK BUT SHE DIDN'T REALLY HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT MEDICINE OR HAVING SOMEONE TO TAKE CARE OF HIM, WHICH HE DENIED TO A LOT OF PEOPLE. My mom has alzheimer's and I can't even tell you what we've been through. so, no, I'm not sorry for nancy; she had every advantage

She couldn't hire someone else to waste away in the place of the one person on earth she was unquestionably devoted to, beyond her children, apparently beyond herself.

I'll join in the toast to her-- and to everyone else who (myself included) has ever had the misfortune... and privilege... to have been a primary/sole caregiver to a loved one who endured a terminal illness.
