People are angry and yet where are the Democratic leaders????
Edited on Thu Jul-10-03 01:02 AM by Cascadian
I have not heard neither hide nor hair of the Democratic leaders in Congress. The only person making any noise is Howard Dean who called Bush a liar and he is not in Congress. What the hell!? They have been too damn quiet!

Maybe Dean is right, maybe there needs to be new DNC leadership.

1. I wrote my senator, Harry Reid, today......
to ask him that very question! I wasn't very nice, either, because I am still pissed about his support for the invasion of Iraq. I will be interested in his reply. (He always answers, just not right away.)

3. Pro-war , Pro-Patriot Act Demos have a lot to answer too!
I think people should not be let off the hook as well. They are accomplices as far as I am concerned. This is the reason that Democrats need new leadership. Expect a coup within the Democratic Party in the coming year.

2. Yep. My VERY conservative brother asked me this tonight.
My brother - he's conservative, but he's a Democrat. And he was asking me tonight, "where are the Democrats?" when I told him of the WMD lies. He always thought they were lies (I told him), but watches only the corporate media. When I told him, it was the first he'd heard of it.

He's concerned that there aren't any Dems that can defeat the shrub. I don't blame him for thinking this (remember where he gets his news.)

My brother-in-law (also a Democrat) then speculated that, sad as it was, there aren't any good Dem candidates. CNN said so. He said that people wouldn't vote for another Dukakis. He thinks that voters will stay away in droves.

I told them that there were at least three candidates that weren't "another Dukakis." My brother informed my brother-in-law that I likely knew what I was talking about, as I read "internet news" and didn't pay attention to the corporate news (I give my brother credit for listening, anyway.)

Anyhow, where the fuck are the Democrats? My brother and brother-in-law (real-life-voters-who-aren't-activists-like-me) want to know.

4. Or maybe you just aren't hearing the rest of the noise
Democrats are all over it. Graham, Kerry, Gephardt, all have made statements calling for investigation and questioning the administration.

Statement from Senator Bob Graham

Finally, White House Admits Bush Used Faulty Intelligence

Miami Lakes, FL - "Last night, the White House finally admitted that President Bush used unproven, untested and untrue reports of Iraq trying to buy uranium from Niger in an effort to convince the nation to go to war. After months of questions and pleas for the facts, followed by repeated denials by Bush officials, the President's aides finally admit the truth: there was no credible evidence Iraq was actively pursuing the purchase of nuclear material that would have necessitated changing focus from the war on terrorism to launching an immediate strike against Iraq.

"For months I have been demanding that the Administration be more truthful in their disclosures to the American people regarding Vice President Cheney's Energy Task Force, the release of all pertinent findings from the 9/11 Report, and the intelligence used to convince America to go to war with Iraq. (more)

5. If they are making noise...
it's because people like Gephardt, Kerry, and Edwards know that the heat is on. That is why they are turning from their support for the war to starting to turn on Bush. It's political maneuvering to say the least. Thankfully the Demos have people like Dean, Kucinich, and McDermott, and Byrd who went all out against everything and I do mean EVERYTHING that Bush had planned and done. Otherwise the Democrats would have been even more spineless than they are now.

6. Well, add Graham to your list of people who stood up all along
The others I don't know, but Graham was onto this since God made dirt, while everybody else, including the press and democrats, acted like he was just waving his arms and mouthing words.

7. Graham should get the VP slot with Dean
IMHO. It would be a great pairing and they seem to get along during the Democratic get-togethers. Dean will need somebody like Graham to carry some Southern votes.
