Best defense for Reagan's death? Scream partisanship!!!
I hope Kerry's people don't let Reagan's death become a rallying cry for the GOP unchallenged.

If the GOP starts pouring on the smarmy, nostalgic bullshit in an effort to pander for votes, the Democrats should shame them into stopping it. Something like,

"I think that a great bipartisan leader like President Reagan (yes, try not to barf when you say this) would be aghast to know that his legacy was being exploited for crass political purposes. The GOP should be ashamed of their willingness to cheapen the memory of a great man in an effort to score a few points with their voter base."

PLEASE, guys... the Republicans have already staked their claim to Patriotism(TM) by wrapping themselves in the flag. Don't let Bush wrap himself in Reagan's death shroud, too.

3. Sounds like a good line.
They probably will exploit this, but what's new? I think Kerry might be able to call them on it, though I doubt it will be an issue in two weeks.

5. It would probably be considered
tacky for Kerry to say anything. Better to just convey condolences to Nancy and let it be.

4. I disagree. Start the Kerry=new morning in America meme.
That leaves the GOP with having to show how Reagan and Kerry were different.

Ronald Reagan was, and I believe is, only popular up until his policies go on the table for discussion.

Meanwhile, keep smiling, and talk about how we're going to bring America back to greatness.
