Did you vote for Reagan?

I just had to ask the question and gague some of you who voted for Reagan. Some of you Reagan Democrats out there. Did you? I was too young in 1980 asnd 1984 to vote so it was a moot point though I never really discovered my political "bone" until I was about 17.

I was young, came from a very conservative family, bought into the whole supply-side bullshit. Not proud of it.

After a couple of years in a liberal arts college, I found my true political avocation.

I did in 1980. I was a 22 year old enlisted member of the USAF and thoroughly brainwashed into believing communists were the enemy of the known universe. Reagan was a stronger anti-communist than Carter, and was all for raising the level of military funding which I thought were good things. It wasn't until I read Marx and Engels in a college honors class after my discharge that I realized the error of my ways. Never voted for a repub since, though.

The right talks a pretty good game about freedom and personal responsibility, and 20 years ago I bought it. It took me a while to realize that when they speak of freedom, they don't mean individual freedom, but rather the freedom of corporate interests to run roughshod of all of us. I also didn't realize at the time that to them personal responsibility only applied to single mothers, and others way down on the economic ladder, who needed to "pick themselves up by their bootstraps", but not to those at the top who were, and remain, free to lie, cheat, steal, and even kill, all in the name of profit. :shrug:

I was 9. I even made a sparkly poster advertising such (we were given a choice), and my grandmother found out and vetoed the whole thing, and so began my transition into the Democratic party.

My son was in the 3rd grade during the 2000 election. His class held their own election and MY son was the ONLY child to vote for Gore! :loveya: I was so proud of him. He took a lot of grief for it too.

To vote for Reagan and any repugnican would be to vote against my class interests. If the rich can vote THEIR class interests then working class people should vote THEIR class interests and that means NOT VOTING PUG!

I was not old enough to vote in 1980 but did work for Reagan's defeat. I was not successful but I worked against him.

In 1984 I voted for MONDALE. I was one of few who did so but at least I felt good about my vote.

I loved and respected Carter as a man and a president. Jimmy got my vote in 1980.

In 1984, I wasn't politically saavy or sophisticated enough to understand exactly what I was doing by voting for Reagan. I wasn't paying enough attention and basically saw Mondale as weaker than Reagan and kind of a clown.

I don't even remember what real issues figured prominently in the 1984 election.

That was the last time I ever voted for a republican.

Edit: I remember not making up my mind for whom to vote in 1984 until I got in the booth.
