Reagan Death Watch - Start the Countdown!
No matter how you feel about Reagan - we all agree we will always be in his debt.

So - the children gather at the bedside. I say he dies tomorrow. Who wants to guess.

1. No kidding, that savings and loan debt just never goes away.
We are each still paying for it. That's what you meant, right?

6. Could we DUers agree on SOMETHING THEN? When it happens,
can we just refer to all the posts today and not inundate DU with this sea of posts about Reagan? By this time, I think we have covered every angle possible and I would hate to waist good bandwidth in having them come back.

18. I agree
If people don't like what he did, consider karma has been done, he has suffered for 10 years with it. Nobody wants that disease, it is horrible.

And I know some people say, well, poor people suffer it far worse and don't have the care. It's true, but I don't care how much money someone has, it's still one of the worst kinds of sickness and death and so hard on the person's family. Might be even worse to have money and have it prolonged, the usual average a person lives is eight years.

20. "consider karma has been done"
For the sake of some of the posters here, lets hope there is no such thing as karma.

7. Am I the only one who thinks its wrong to celebrate his demise??
Regardless of what he did in office, he's still a human being.

10. I'm sorry for his
family; I'm even sorrier for my country: we're going to be paying for his recklessness into the next three generations!

22. No. I don't care for the man either, but on a human being level, I think
it's crass to celebrate someone's demise. I'm sure I'll be flamed for writing this.

9. Why?
What harm is he doing now? He can't hurt anyone now, and I promise you if he croaks tomorrow your life and America's life will be no better off as a result. Sorry, but I won't be participating in yout "death watch".

11. I say it'll be Monday, bigger news day...
Like the old saying regarding the NY Times obits, "No one important dies on Saturday" (then you don't get a good obit!) He'll be joining his buddy Nixon in Hell pretty damn soon.

13. For God's Sake!
The Man is very ill he is in the advanced stages of a terrible terrible disease...let his family be with him and don't do something as distasteful as this.

I disagreed with Reagan a great deal and so did Tip O'Neil (Dem majority leader in the house) but remember that both got on well with each other really well at a personal level... the main reason for that IMHO was that both knew each cared a great deal about this country and wanted the best for it...I think we should remember this and try and work for a time when this country might be a little less partisan and bitter... "a house divided against its self cannot stand"...

I pray that Ronald Reagan’s pain and suffering might soon end and that he might be at peace.

If it was me I would have wanted a pillow over my face long long ago, but that by the by…

21. yes, it is
Put me down for

mid-to-late October, so the National Mourning will give Bush the boost he needs (my original prognostication)

OR

the second day of the Democratic National Convention, to divert the major media people and attention to the other side of the country. I'm starting to like this one more and more.

Seriously, though, if I were a praying person I'd be lighting candles so he'll pull through for another year or so. I disliked him and his policies intensely, but I would like him to live long enough for a Democratic administration to start to get this country back on track.
