US Planes authorized to escort Bin Laden's family during 9-11?
It was on Moore's trailer. What is the basis for this?

1. It is detailed as much as possible....
...in the first chapter of Craig Unger's excellent book "House of Bush, House of Saud". And, yes, it happened.

9. It is so unbelievable that it cries impeachment
I sense a bit of doubt.
Have you heard of the 9/11 commission? Do you know the only reason for those hearings is because the widows of some of those who were murdered had heard this (and other) stories. They demanded someone from the top, under oath, needed to tell America just what was going on behind our backs. How could this possibly be true?

I believe Richard Clarke testified about it under oath, for the 9/11 commission. He said he didn't authorize it, the FBI or above need to approve it.

Here's the story, it include the passengers listed.

It was also in RW journals.

Thinking out loud....
I am always amazed at how DU posters get to 1000 or over posts, and don't know about topics that have been posted here repeatedly.

11. Clark apparently took responsibility for it
http://www.hillnews.com/news/052604/clarke.aspx

Richard Clarke, who served as President Bush’s chief of counterterrorism, has claimed sole responsibility for approving flights of Saudi Arabian citizens, including members of Osama bin Laden’s family, from the United States immediately after the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

In an interview with The Hill yesterday, Clarke said, “I take responsibility for it. I don’t think it was a mistake, and I’d do it again.”

Most of the 26 passengers aboard one flight, which departed from the United States on Sept. 20, 2001, were relatives of Osama bin Laden, whom intelligence officials blamed for the attacks almost immediately after they happened.

Clarke’s claim of responsibility is likely to put an end to a brewing political controversy on Capitol Hill over who approved the controversial flights of members of the Saudi elite at a time when the administration was preparing to detain dozens of Muslim-Americans and people with Muslim backgrounds as material witnesses to the attacks.

12. My understanding was that he handed it over to the FBI since they would
be the ones to investigate/interrogate any likely suspects. And it was the FBI which made the decision to allow the airlifts to proceed.

Maybe we should look at the FBI more closely?

13. Another problem with the situation...
is that the U.S. missed an opportunity to question all of those people! Even if they had nothing to do with the attacks, they may have had some information that would prove helpful in the investigation. It really is an outrage and negates any self-righteous macho posturing on Bushwah's part. He had an opportunity to find the people responsible for 9/11 and he chickened-out just to keep the Saudis happy.
